Martoons Millington lump was well under 600bhp in car... I'm sure he will agree

Very mate, but Rods done over 200mph without injecting any, which means his intercooler alone was delivering the goods.
Bear in mind condition plays a part too and a lot of these 500 ones now are past their best, but good to hear the jumbo pro alloy jobs are so good.
Dave was obviously running his 35 very very hard, so it probably makes the cooler look a lot less efficient at first glance than it really was, as Id probably be shocked if I new the PRE IC temps, so maybe im underestimating how much good it was still doing
I ran them back to back. I had HUGE charge temp problems on a Standard Behr RS500 cooler on track and on Topspeed Runs. Tried a standard ProAlloy and in was slightly better but still not upto the job.
The Jumbo ProAlloy one I have is man enough and keeps ACT's low enough to not have problems

It does show that Martin's Millington engine was pretty good then, as it shouldn't by your calcs have been able to do 194.7mph with a mere 627bhp on race fuel.... . Just goes to show how gearing and weight can play a part, as Martin's old Escort was only 1250kg, but he had the 6-speed R&D dogbox.
With all the Data I have there are 3 runs only that I say are near that elusive 'optimum'.
Dave Moss 178.5mph with 440bhp
Mark Snead 183.2mph with 480bhp
Martin Hadland 194.7 with 590bhp
Put Daves data in & ask what will 194.7 take & it says 595bhp so I guess these 2 runs are the nearest to 'optimum' that ive seen.
Its why I always run 'overloaded' with Power it allows leeway on finding that 'sweet spot'.
Find 'optimum & mine will pull 220mph with 980bhp but with only 5speeds I cant even get close to that, mine will never go past 215mph be assured.
My advice is if you want to do 200mph & be sure to do it first run, go with 740bhp & its yours.
Mike my Saff went 2.3mph faster than yours with 30 less bhp because mine was very near 'optimum' & yours was not, I trust you will agree with that, there is more to this than just Power.

Same with mine on the first 200mph run only had a restrictive 3" exhaust so not the Power we thought at the time. Think we claimed 760bhp but with that exhaust 720 tops.

I agree with what you are saying about the optimum thing as well... as if I didn't know it was true and you old me a 440bhp Escos pulled 178mph at Brunters I would call you a liar!

Then again im still on a spaced RS500 inlet & that dont work past 570bhp .

ROD: out of interest, what factors does your formula' take into account??
that you use to estimate what things are gonna achieve
BHP?+torque? what else?
Thanks!

Yes it can be hard
Some american do 229 mph in a standing mile.
Current record holder
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mv5HsmKQw9E 229 mile run
Here some examples
The porsche went 226,18 mph in standing mile
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hUi2H4Ejn0
200 mph is so 1990
The standing mile is the real benchmark now

Be safe.
Be safe.
It only controls boost nothing else and if it had been that lose there would of been no boost.
So get of my thread and go back to the Muppet room where you belong
And for the record the drinks didnt come out to the end of the day

I dont remember any verified non nos runs for rods car over 200? E.g. bottle taken out and sitting on the tarmac etc. I know the car was supposed to have gone over 200 without the nos on or when they thought it had run out etc but that is not quite the same thing? It was always destined to go nostastic and did a good job of it, but am dubious of the boost only thing. Where was it reported/witnessed/verified?

Dont lose too much sleep over it pal. We will be attempting to beat the 206 record off the gas before too long. Its such a shame people dont understand just how fast my car is. The 5th gear run in the wet used only 4 secs of gas & was a 212 run in the dry. We also did 199.6 that day off gas in the wet, keep clutching too those straws.

I really would have loved to have gone back with standard gearing, as in theory it should have pulled 187mph with that gearing and the correct tyres, as my engine only dropped 1.5bhp between 7000 and 7500, so was ideally set up for it . If only I knew then, what I know now .

Well done Dave, i will look forward to reading it when the mag comes out.
I hit 6.3k rpm in 5th at Brunters with standard 2wd box/diff and 235/40/17 tyres. Then the front indicator made a break for freedom and i shit myself.

get the mags to do a feature on no cossie powered vehicles from the non rs/st range and see how popular it would be
at least you'll know how many others are out there with bonkers fords but not in the selected varieties few that grace the mags more often that not
(i must just say that i've been rooting through some old editions of performance ford and spotted them ding reviews on other markes of cards than just ford, they even did a write up on things such as the new e36 bmw and the lotus carlton, as well as telling us to expect a cosworth powered fiesta and a 4wd version of the orion)
but i think we should get back to bigging dave up for driving his car in a straight line really really fast and waiting for everyone to argue about how fast he should be compared to how fast he actually went and then having to wait till it comes out in the magazene

Clutching at straws etc, that is not where I believe I am coming from. Its the comparison of proven facts much the same drum as you beat. You would be the first questioning peoples achievements/claims unless solidly backed up.
As I understood it the time you claimed to do 200 off gas was a run where the nos was installed and activated. A later look at the logs and discussion of pressure drop etc led it to be classed in your eyes as a non nos run even though it was on etc. I'm aware you will then cite facts of running rich, detrimental effects etc etc but as I was aware it was under these circumstances. Again I did not know of you doing any reported/witnessed non nos runs.
I still think you are utterly bananas for trying to push your engine as far as you are after the issue at brunters and then again on the dyno. But fair play if you hit your targets you deserve them.
I do not have any issue with mad etc and am very happy that dave has had some fun out of his car after the time and effort he has put into it. I also appreciate marks comments on anything as so few tuners are willing to be as open to the public.
This optimum run that is being spoken about. It seems more like tail wind.
