i always found autosol really good, like a paste, goes pretty black when polishing but when you buff it off it comes up really good

Is it smooth and already polished but dull, or is it plain unfinished?

If its already finished but dull then autosol (totally different from autoglym), Brasso or Doktor power by JML are the ones.

If its unfinished, then some 1500-2000 grit sandpaper, wet, then the above products.

autosol is the best for getting a shine but you have to generate some heat whilst polishing to get a better shine. iE: buffing wheel on a drill etc
