Towing a car with one of those solid bar things you get from Halfords???
General Car Related Discussion. To discuss anything that is related to cars and automotive technology that doesnt naturally fit into another forum catagory.
lol yes if its the cossie!!! i towed mine from pitmedden to my house on a solid bar (which you can borrow if you want) and it was not fun! fuck doing it without brakes!!
Cool, I was just gonna tow it about 3/4 mile, it has a handbrake...
I need to get the alignment done, i was trying to get as much done as possible before phil picks it up. Sounds like you've got alot on justnow mate!
I was told the car being towed by one of those SHOULDN'T brake
I've been the towee with one of these a couple of times and only gently braked when going down a steep hill, the worst part is being so close to the car in front you can't see where you going
Hmmm more confusion.....it would be my mate in the evo towing and I'd be steering the cossie, so i don't care if i went into the back of him.....
So chop.....r u busy or are you just flapping!!!!

my old man towed me on a solid bar for about the same distance and I had no brakes, didnt cause any problems and my garage is at the bottom of a fuck off hill!!

you have 2 points of atriculation
the car in front's tow point and the car behinds tow point
the car in front can tow you forwards in a line
the car behind can follow in the same line
but as soon as the car behind deviates from the path you are going to be in a world of trouble
the reason bars are safer is that there is less of a shunt between the 2 as each accelerates/decelerates than there would be with a rope
don't go above 20 mph and its all good
You don't need brakes on the car being towed. I've done it loads of times. Record is From York to Manchester, being towed in an S2 with no brakes by a Nova...
So a car with decent disc brakes all round is not capable of slowing down its self and another car for a short while?
Ive no idea
Course it is.
3/4 mile will be fine. I done it for 70 miles of twisty B road. Car at the back didn;t even have calipers . And I wasn;t driving like a granny. Towee did phone a few times to say slow down, coz he kept wanting to overtake

How i read this thread made it seem like its a noo
I have used these for years, and towed cars with no brakes, bloody scary with a FORD BRONCO on the rear of an astra though!!
It was only 2 miles in this case, to the base, jesus they weight a lot, but towed plenty of other cars, I always ask them NOT to brake at all, easy to do, don't go above 25 or so.
tabetha
buy the tow bar with the spring in the middle then its a bit easier on ya cars etc but i got towed fine with no brakes at all , but scary being so close to the tow car
