Default BMW E60 5 Series

Hi all,

Just want to ask a question on a new shape 520i BMW. Its my dads car.

Basically the car is 4 years old and has 36k miles on the clock. When my dad bought it last year in Feb the car was very quiet very smooth etc as you would expect it to be. A year later and 2000 miles put on the clock during the year (he dont use it much) it seems to be noisier, more noise on idle and you can feel the vibration of the engine in the car (never use to feel it before). It also sounds more tappety than before on idle (on cold start).

I have a feeling its to do with the way my dad drives. The car is constantly seeing about 2000 or so rpm with changes at roughly 2500-3500 rpm. The car hasnt really had a chance to be used on long journeys and sees usual town driving and short journeys.

Does the car just need a good driving to get all the shit out? I'm pretty sure the car has never seen the upper end of the VANOS system whilst my dad has been driving it. I'm not insured on it so I cant drive it but do you guys just reckon it needs a decent drive?

I checked the last oil change as well which was 5000miles ago.

Would change oil, could be any old crap, and hasn't had an easy life by sounds of it; could be in a bit of a state.
Plugs too I suppose.

will tell my dad to give it some beans over the weekend and see if thats helps.

the computer tells you when things are due to be changed and the oil still has ages to go and the plugs even longer. something stupid like 5000-10000miles

I'll get him to do it in due course anyway.
