Default Closed loop question...

I'm taking my car to MSD in a couple of weeks time for a live map and closed loop fuelling , i was just wondering what sort of differences i should expect as far as the closed loop is concerned?
Does it make the car drive differently etc??

Cheers, Karl

.............ur dodgy old saff will drive like a brand new mondeo when it comes out of msd.................cloosed loop system helps the engine to stay clean and should give it a longer life.........aswell as 30mpg if u drive it off boost..........

Very tempted to go wasted spark as well, cant wait to get it all done, i've heard lots of good thigs about closed loop, is it true that it can reduce oil consumption as well because of the reduced bore wash?

wideband is for a gauge, and has wider scope,

narrowband is used for closed loop, and measures the center area only, around 14.7;1

Best conversion out there imo i've both closed loop and wasted spark pulls smooth all the way with no hessitation or miss fireseen 150+ miles from Ł30 (driving sensible as always)

MSD

tbh getting your car back from MSD transforms the car anyway !!!

paul look into what a closed loop conversion actually does, its for part throttle driving/cruisng on motorways off boost, on boost the car will still be bad on fuel !!!

the remap will affect the way the car drives if theres a bad map on the car ( cossie motorsport chip on greys for example)

my car felt ALOT better when it came back from MSD and it just had a custom chip fitted to it, no closed loop ect, he just tided the fueling and ignition maps and the car performed better !!!

i know what it does mate but am not to sure what is needed? i have a narrow band sensor on my t34 already, is this all thats required other than a management to take it which i have and if i put a windband in the exhaust it will monitor egt and thats it? sorry for sounding thick guys but dont really know what is needed for this as yet

i ment understand EXACTLY how it does it, not just guess

all cars these days have closed loop as standard, any car with a cat and some without, even diesels have it these days

if the ECU has closed loup control, then its just another sensor, just like a air temp/water temp sensor

AFR gauge does not measure exhaust temp !!!, its measures the air/fuel ration ( like a breathaliser for a car )

how do you know you have a narrow band already in the T34 ???, btw lambda sensors all differ from ecu to ecu, you cant just get one from a punto and plug it in the mangement

the wideband AFR gauge is just that, just like a boost gauge, you dont use a narrowband gauge on a turbo car as it dont cover the same range that a turbo car has ON BOOST so will register wrong readings

if it fits in the turbo, its the oe ford item like mine had from new...narrow band.

you do NOT need a wideband for closed loop,,they dont work.

you need a narrowband

so the narrow band connects up to the ecu (just the sensor straight to the ecu) and the wideband goes straight to a gauge to monitor air/fuel ratio?

Most chips did'nt use the closed loop function after std due to the extra and time consuming programing hence why most if not all ran around 2.5/3 % co to run right

This is were MSD took the time to do this as 3% on tickover and crusie was a waste of fuel= bore wash, crappy plugs, rough running etc

which makes for a cleaner running engine which will pass MOT's without a hitch
As said this will only work on tickover and cruise so no more overfueling on tickover and puffing black out the rear

turbo cars will always be "bad" on fuel when you are boosting as you need the fuel there to mix with the extra air, just like if it was a 7 litre engine instead of a 2 litre engine. Closed loop tidies up part throttle, idle and cruise, and makes a world of difference

will thats just what i was pointing out alot of people think " closed loop, i can rag the car and use less fuel than a vw polo bluefuel diesel"

just explaining its not the case,

if you use the car as a toy and rag the arse off it at weekends and have another car for the week is it actually worth converting a car for the closed loop conversion is what i wonder,

Can you have Closed loop on T6 and Does the whoel car have to be remapped or can this just be added on?

T6 can run closed loop fuelling, not sure if it can use a narrow band on its own, but can use a wide band.

I think it just needs the lambda target table configuring to enable it.

What version of T6, Ben?

Pete, Ben's on about a Pectel T6 ECU, not a 'chip' / Pectel baby board.

A narrow band is just used to trim fueling at light throttle.
An N/a car will still be out of range for the narrow band on full throttle.

Personally i removed closed loop and still get good fuel consumption. It just takes longer to set up, you basically just lean out the bottom end fueling to between 14.7-15.2 for better fuel consumption.
