We saw Untraceable last week. Along the same lines as Saw/Hostel. I'd say its worth seeing, but not anywhere near as good as Saw. There is some pretty horrific torture in it though, just wasn't as fast paced as Saw.

I waiting on the original 1980 "John Carpenters : The Fog", and a 2007 film called "Death Sentence" starring Kevin Bacon to finish, err, doing something that has nothing to do with them entering my computer at all

Death Sentence wasn't all that IMO.

30 Days of Night is a new Vampire film. Looks good and I will watch it at some point!

There's not been that many horror films out for a while. Hostel and Saw to me are not horror films, just blood and guts with a story line lol. A horror is something that tries to scare you (Which hasn't had a good one in a while that Ive seen)

todays horrors aint all that imo

rely too much on top notch effects, which are good but generally used at the expense of good old 'suspense'.

Death sentence isn't very good at all. The chavs/gang memebers aren't very convincing and the film has that desperate rushed feel about it. Few guns and some action in it though.

...oh also i thought very very good jessica alba...the eye

Horror films these days arnt as good because the effects have to be spot on to look convincing...its set to get worse when its all HD..back in the vhs days the effects where so much better because of the crap quality.

I watched "The Mist" the other day - again, what a let down! Poor acting, poor casting, must have had NO budget at all, it dragged and dragged and dragged, yet with no suspense whatsoever! Ending makes you feel gutted, proper sad, but at the same time as thinking "wow, thats really sad" you also think "erm, that was really shit"

Gotta agree with comments made above, todays horrors aren't good at all. Some are o.k. but all this blood, guts and gore just ain't scary anymore...its psychological stuff that actually makes you think that scares the hell outta ya...

WTF are you talking about? The TV or source has no bearing on how good or bad a film looks in relation to it's budget! Budget is relation to effects, props, locations, cast, crew, timescale of shoot, post production, audio track etc - not the visial quality of the finished product!

The story was good, I never said it wasn't. The problem was the way it was portrayed. It had NOTHING on the book, which was full of suspense - the film wasn't. I also didn't say it was long - but it did drag, mainly due to it's lack of suspense and poor direction. As for badly acted films - yes, I've seen loads, and this was one of them - whats your point?

Totally agree with that - the best horror films are the ones where the scary thing is what you DON'T see, as opposed to what you DO see

I think the slight weak points in the plot are more than made up by what Frank Darabont has done with the film, one of the best endings I've seen in a long time as well, none of this "happy hollywood ending" bollox, proper end that makes you think a bit.

Where as the fog is just plain shit
Not seen the Fog (yet ) but I wasn't saying the story was shit, nor the ending, what I was saying I already explained above - the way it was portrayed on film - IMO it was a poor attempt. It just wasn't well done and it wasn't justice to the book (which I have also read and what made me watch the film) I sat at the end of the film completely gutted for the guy after watching the ending. But that was about the SITUATION of the ending - the overall effect of the film was a let down to me, I just thought it was badly played out and unconvincing, poorly acted, poorly directed, not a potential classic (which the Fog is reputed to be) All IMO of course

If it's as good as his original version (not the wanky remake) of "Assult On Precinct 13" then it should be good

I have no problem with remakes, in fact I welcome them, but the problem is sooooo many are done really badly! There's only a few that are actually any good - Dawn Of the Dead, remade in 2004, is one, as is the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Both slightly different to the originals, but both very well made!

And I like re-writes aswell, like last years "Halloween". Rob Zombie completely re-wrote it, and it's a re-interrpretation of the original film, not a remake. More to do with HOW Mike Myers became the killer and not about those he killed. Good film, and expertly directed. (IMO)

But there are too many films that have been remade that are just shocking hash ups, and too many good books that have been made into films that are let downs (The Mist as already dscussed (IMO) and a couple of film adaptations of the book "The Rats" by John Herbert, aswell as a version of "The Fog" also one of his books - not related to the John Carpenter film)

Just watched "The Fog" (1980 Carpenter version) Not bad! Typical 80's production and music! But like all JC films I've seen, the suspense was there, the tension, the lack of being able to see the "bad guys". By todays standards, no it's not fantastic, but it DOES have the scary element - even made me jump in a couple places!
