Question Mondeo Power Steering belt..

Is it easy to change? its a 1998 TD. Mine seems to have started squeaking in the morn. TO check i put some WD on it and ypu lost PS for a bit as was then slipping bad!!! lol


So how hard is it? I dont really want to get my hands dirty though tbh...

Not sure how mate tbh, it was getting dark when had a look so couldnt seen any obvious place for adjustment. Prob could just do that, but wonder if at same time easy enough just to replace belt.

I know Just thought seing as sqeakin might aswell change it as dont know condition, if been stretched over time etc.

Just my luck poxy thing will go when going to work lol. Seemed a bit complicated as AC pump in way etc. just wondering if its on a big loop? Or is the adjuster easy to get to for anyone who knows?

i think theres three belts iirc on these, they're all a bit fiddly, buy new ones and take it to a garage!

Its got about as much chance going to a garage than i have win the lotto. lol.



I would even get my hands dirty before that. ONce got some straight forward pointers from peeps will see me getting hands dirty urgh. I soooo need to hurry up and find a proper car.

It is just a normal serpentine belt, I think the adjuster on these is on the alternator bracket, you turn the nut/bolt on the arm and it moves the alternator along so tightening the belt.
Try some TALCUM powder, as this cleans the belt, is slightly abrasive so cleans the wheels up as well.

as tabetha said, just one long serpentine belt.

the adjuster is spring loaded so, you just need to remove 2 10mm screws holding the belt sield on, then its a 15mm spanner on the idler to move it.

when its slack, just pull the belt off.

ps, take note of what way it goes on all the pulleys.

10 min job
