Default Kwik Fit? Are they mad?

Unfortunately, as per the conditions of the fleet support I have on my work van, I have to go to ATS for tyres, and Kwik Fit for brakes. Finding that my N/S brakes are shot to shit, I head down there this afternoon. Stand in recpetion for 10mins, then get asked what I want;

ME : "Any chance of a disc and pad change on my Connect please mate?"
KF : "Not today"
ME : "Fair enough - how about tomorrow?"
KF : "Bring it in, do it when we can"
ME : I kinda have a lot of work on during the day, so what time can I book it in for"
KF : "Just turn up and we'll do it"
ME : "Say about 9am?"
KF : "Yeah ok, but can't guarantee we'll be able to do it at 9"
ME : "Well can I book an appointment for whatever time and I'll be there"
KF : "We don't do appointments"
ME : "Well what am I supposed to do then?"
KF : "Bring it in at 9, can't guarantee it'll get started on before 11, so probably ready by 1.....ish"
ME : "Mate, I can't come in here at 9am and not get out till 1 o'clock! I've got 7 screens to do! How long does it take to do?"
KF : "2 hours or so"

Are they mad? Don't book appointments? 2 hrs do do a disc and pad change on a Connect? I mean fuck me, I had it jacked, wheel off, caliper off, carrier off, pads and disc off and all refitted in under 30mins this afternoon - And thats with a poxy scissor jack and no air tools. How in the fuck does it take 2 hours to do it on a 2-post lift with airtools?

pmsl

i get exactly the same thing with my work wagon mate!!

but sometimes (keep in mind i use the SAME place every time) they have to,
get the van.. take the wheels off to see what pads they are (apparently there are a few different ones for my van) and then order them in....

even though they have done it a few times before! lol

EDIT: I drop mine off in Bath at 830 as soon as they open the door. and often dont get it back till 230- 3pm
just for pads and discs LOL

So fucking annoying cos if they'd just order the stuff in to my work, I could do it myself in an hour and be on my way, no fucking around waiting or having to load all my gear into another van etc

hang about, remeber that they have to check the car over aswell as just do the brakes BY LAW, they need to plan INCASE theres a issue and give some breathing space too

what kwick fit was it as i supply them with there parts when they are in distress, generally most are useless fuckers who are too lazy to even check what car there working on and just hope the DVLA reg details are correct,,,,,, but 2 hours for discs and pads is average i would say

anoys me when people claim they can do this and that quicker,,,,, if your that fucking good why are you just fitting windscreens for a living for 20k a year and not a REAL mechanic on 30k ???

Dont know what your kwik fitters are like but the ones down here are shockingly shite! I had to point out to one of them that they stuck my tyre on the wrong way round ( directionals ) Then had another occasion when they stuck those weights what you have to hammer on on my brand new RS7's. Wasnt pleased. I mean this is basic stuff.

Maybe they're trying to put people off now because of their offer.. new discs and pads free for life when you buy a set off them isn't it?

james i doubt it, as we supply the pads and discs and we offer a non quibble warranty for 2 years,,,,,, also id like to mention that the cheepo pads and discs we sell to shitfit have had ALOT less warranty issues than the equivelent mintex stuff we sell !!!

i didnt belive it till i was shown the proof either

Cos I ain't a mechanic Ginge - but I've changed enough discs and pads to know a) how to do it, and b) how to do it quickly. Like I said, I had it jacked, stripped and refitted in under a half hour in my workshop using a 3/8's ratchet and a scissor jack

mate thats the point im getting at, its NOT just fitting pads and discs, its checking the car too incase theres any danger points,,,,,, all companys have to do that to cover them selves, just incase theres a issue on doing the pads too

i know the techs at kwick fit aint the best,,,,, but the times quoted are based on a book time,,,,, just like when you go to a resturant and they tell you its a 45 mins wait for a table,,,,,,,, but you get a table in 20 mins

your knocking them for doing there job,,,,, sure you book times for windows are longer than it actually takes too

this is why it's nice to have a lot of vehicles in the fleet going to the same place to get work done
you get certain courtesies that you may not otherwise get
i got tyres and wheels changed and fitted on my cars and only pay basic prices for the tires and fitted etc is free

pkus they aknowledge that there is a good deal to be had there because fleet will pay top dollar and they look after you

nice to be depot supervisor in control of all the fleet decisions

matt next time you need some work done at a kwikfit, tell me which branch it is and ill have a word with em to look after ya, all of em owe me favours as they are soo fucking lazy when ordering stuff

which branch was it out of interst, the QUICKEST for getting the cars out is the ilford branch ( not seven kings ) but the guys there are arogant pricks,,,,,,, but they seem to know what there doing ( unlike the branchs that ask where there spark plugs are for a car,,,,, that they drove in and STILL never realised its diesel,,,,,, or the one that asked me where the oil filter was on a BMW 318 pmsl )

I usually allow 4 hrs for a trip to Qfit for 2 new tyres on my company van.

First you wait for them to check all wheels, then check stock, then ring for an order number for the card, then taxi the tyres in from another branch, (6 plys). I keep trying different branches but the tyres are usually at another one.

Meanwhile someone paying cash has turned up and gets to jump the fitting queue as they make more profit from them.

Meant to say that in my last post - Walthamstow branch, the one on the corner of the Billet next to Dag Motors.....

I appreciate the checking of the vehicle - I have to do that myself with every car I work on. But whilst our call centre quote 2hr windows for all jobs, those aren't fit times - those are arrival times. So when I arrive at a "2-4" job - I arrive between 2 and 4 - I check the vehicle (5mins tops) over, tell the customer 45mins and have it finished usually with about 5 mins either side (depending if it's a cunt to get out ) Sure I do sometimes tell em slightly exaggerated times, usually dependant on the car - if it's an old shitter for example - but not bread and butter stuff like Corsa's, Fiesta's, Astra's, Focus', etc.... And a Transit Connect disc and pad change MUST be bread an butter stuff to somewhere like Kwik Fit - there's more connects on the road now than regular Transits!!!!!

Same problem with ATS - get a flat, I change it myself. So I drive in at a later date and ask them to fit a replacement to what is now the spare. Should be easy right? Ooooooooh no!

45min wait while they lift it and check all tyres, ring fleet support, get order number, find a tyre, then fit it to the spare, but then they have to fit this to the opposite side to the one I fitted and put the one they took off (now part worn) under the back - apparently they aren't allowed to fit a new tyre to a spare "has to be to a wheel in use"

So I just call out the mobile guy to my work place now, and leave the spare there and let him change it, then put it back on the van when I get back in the next morning

how is that ATS's fault if its fleet support policy to fit the new tyre to the vehicle

as i mentioned before, you need to go to one that you always go to to be sorted

i went and changed 2 tyres today on one of the connects and, including the time it took to drive there, leave it there, go to richer sounds, get complicated advice as to which sort of hdmi cable i need, walk back and speak to fleet to say "yes, one puncture, one sidewall damage" and get the van back on the road and drive back again in less than 35 minutes

and there were 5 peoe in the queue in front of me and yet i still got waved through to the front

that's because we go there for a lot of our vehicles, and even at only 11 from 24 they still look after me

i can't see what is wrong with being on first name terms with all the staff there
