RX7, no way. Ridiculoulsy thirsty and expensive/difficult to work on

I'd recommend the Supra over the Skyline, but you say you don't like them, which for me leave one choice..........

Impreza STi 5

Sure, it's more common and not as "different" as a Skyline, but parts are plentiful, the STi 5 engine has to be the best of the bunch, and you could get a top notch one for your money.

They're great to drive, and not as complicated as some of the other jap machinery

Only real downside is that they are a bit thirsty, but you said that doesn't bother you

Or as said, if you really don't want a 4dr, then there's the Type R, which is great too

Surely it's got to be a 200SX all day long?

Cheap enough, quite easy to work on, RWD, fun, LOADS of bits for them etc etc

Indy- I was explaining why your reply was retarded.

Rad- Get an S14a. If I had 7k to spend on a car and was in to modifying them, id not spend all 7k on the car. And if I wasnt into modding em, id not get any of the aformentioned cars.

LOL!

A skyline for 7k and reliable?!

NOT A CHANCE!!!

Its an old car and its not going to be reliable like a new car!!

I know I keep banging on about this BUT your not listening... You need to accept ALL cars are unrelaible, its just new cars are less abused and therefore go wrong less!

You need to run a car that is within your means... by that I mean don't try and run a performance car without either the technical know-how or deep pockets. Its a recipy for disaster.

For example I have owned my Porsche 928 for 4 days and its broken down already! I think the fuel pump has packed up. But I can fix that no problems as I have all the tools and equipement I need - that includes the 2 post ramp.

Sorry to sound harsh matey - just trying to help.... honestly.

Are the 4's not prone to crankwalk, or had they sorted it by then?

Rad, I found running a Skyline expensive! and without wanting to sound like a complete wanker I probably have a bit more disposable income than you mate.

Get an S14 or even something...

or you know what... be sensible and leave modified cars well alone and save to get on property ladder!

every evo 4 ive had has given me aggro with either crankwalk/clutch.....evo 5's are ok.
200sx are great fun.
but i would get an impreza type r......out of the 3.....
or an audi s4 estate,or a cheaper impreza sti v3,or an 02 impreza sti type uk,(note the blatant advertising opportunity!)

but what do i know, i bought a scoobie in the end and i was looking to buy a M3

Evo 5 is a good call, as chip suspected evo 4's suffer with crankwalk BUT there are some out there with evo 6 engines in and if you actively seeked one then I'd expect a realy nice evo 4 with 6 engine could be had for Ł5500 at the moment.

I've had an R32 and R33 GTR and they are awesome cars though IMO, loads of road presence, go nicely, sound superb etc.. It just feels good to be in a nice GTR.

Beware though, as a few have said a tired R32 could be a nightmare. If you're spending Ł7k though I'd expect you could get a nicely looked after one. Neither of mine were any trouble, apart from coil packs, but after dicking around with 2nd hand ones I just bought a new set and it seriously made the engine feel sooo much smoother and faster.

The toyota engine is a superb bit of kit, but they (looks/image'wise) just don't float my boat so can understand if you're not interested in one.

have been lucky enough to own quite a few 'nice' cars (although i know many people have owned better (i aint dicksizing)) :

integrale evo, 911 3.2, a few cossies, even more impreza's, Clio V6, 300TT manual, others i've forgotten, also an R32 skyline.

The R32 was fucking mega, the one decent cossie i had was fun & fast but the R32 was even more so...and it was a bit of a dog lol!!!! FAST, RWD until you spazzed up, sounded like heaven what a fucking noise....even from the inside, the engine note when booting it was sublime!

Get it to 350bhp+ and you will love it, i miss mine even though it needed work etc, still went like fook.

Need to try some cars mate, simple as. Come along to that day at the Pod soon, that may help you make your mind up.

Hondas and other wanky 200bhp hot hatches have been mentioned by I like FAST and thought thats what you wanted too, so up to you.

Personally I find GTRs fairly boring until they good power (ie over 500, but everything feels slow to me, in reality even stg1 is fast as fuck compared to most standard "fast" cars, so you might be ok), and then they expensive to keep nice. I dont know anyone, even people with stg1 sorta spec cars (and I got loadsa mates who at one point had a Skyline, even tho most have got rid by now), that has had one for a long time and used it hard that hasnt had to spend a lot of money keeping it nice.
Mostly due to a pain to do DIY jobs (and considering how common it is for problems to happen that is a DIY on an S14a but a mega pain on a GTR, thats bad), and terrible ripoff tuners so-called experts.
Put it this way, the ONLY bit I dont like about my Chaser is its got a RB26 in it! And most people thought the same so didnt buy it, if it had a 1JZ or 2JZ id feel much happier about it.

Mk4 Supras handle suprisingly mint, usual internet myth is they dont, but they do. Reliable and fast in every way, but if something did go wrong, it will cost money. And they worth more in the first place.

RX7s are awesome, and dont cost much to fix when go wrong, but like your Pulsar they prone to the gay niggly problems that I know you wont be wanting to deal with, so I wouldnt.

If you want 4x4 then Evo I reckon. But considering how pissed off you got with the Pulsar, personally id get THE most reliable thing you can get, so nothing modded and 4x4 at all.

If you want RWD then S14 without doubt, more mods than almost any car on the planet, piss to work on, piss to tune, spares are easy and cheap, nimble, fun, decent specialists to look after them, and unlike most other stuff, take a hell of a beating and love it. Great all-rounders.
Only bad thing is they 4cyl so they dont sound awesome like a Supra or Skyline.

So, basically, buy a tidy S14 and then mod it and look after it with the money you got left.

Why own beyond your means? Thats no fun for anyone, its shit in fact!

I'm gonna get a new car in May if I get this new job I've gone in for (although I probs won't). It's walking distance from home and so all that fuel I spunk doing 40 miles a day will no longer be an issue and I won't need a 30mpg + car

If I do get the job I'm gonna get one of the following:
R32 GTR (But bit put off from what I've just read above!)
S14a
MR 2 Turbo Rev 4 onwards
Supra TT Manual

Good luck Rads, sure you'll make the right choice dude

Quick Reply: GTR R32, Any downsides?
