could anyone recommend a good book that teaches the basics of engine mapping.

Dave Walkers Engine Management Manual is very good. Start buying Practical Performance Car magazine as there is always lots of good stuff in there.

had a look at this. courses only available in the us at the minute but coming to the uk soon.

ben strader (efi101) also has a book out! its not the best!

TBH ive never read a brilliant book on mapping, and stu wont write one DOH

But it's better than some similar books though Gareth! I read one that kept repeating the same thing over and over again so much, I got bored.

Dave's book is not all about mapping but a general book about ENGINE MANAGEMENT, but he does do a big bit on mapping, ask STU(msd) as he has this book also, everyone learns from someone else, books are the key to knowledge.
A extremely good book, HAYNES number H835.

Surely a book would only give you so much knowledge?

like a chess book, it can teach you all the moves but not how to become a chess champion?!
