Default computer speakers

right, fed up with having to plug in the head phones to be able to listen to anything on the pc as the speakers are built into the moniter and are, quite frankly, shite

so, for a nominal budget, what's a good set of speakers to go for? with a sub?
i've got a full 5.1 thing going on with the other pc but obviously i want to keep that sort of thing for this newer one but without really needing the 5.1 as i output it to the surround amp when i'm watching stuff on the telly from the pc

this is for the computer watching bits

thanks

i have recently bought these and am well impressed with them

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Engine.../dp/B000IYRGVY

no need for a sub, they are beefy enough

they have a USB socket on the top so that you can charge up USB devices without having a pc switched on as well - good for ipod or other mp3 player

Same.

People may think mid market range speakers sound good, but when you experience true quality like bose or Bang and Olufsen, you will never look back at cheap(ish) speakers.
I have the lifestyle 48, Bose Companion 2 laptop speakers, Bose noise cancelling earphones, in ear earphones.
Currently looking at buying a bose pa system for the music room/gigs, got a feeling this is going to be anothe expensive shopping trip!

Ends up been an addiction in search of the perfect sound, anywhere!

I agree, but from what he says hes looking for, then I would suggest £30 speakers are too much. I have a Bang Olufsen set up connected to pretty much everything in the house and they sound spot on. But for youtube, or porn (what hes likely to be watching on the pc) then a set of cheap speakers are gonna be up to the task

you cheeky fooker

the computer is hooked up to the telly when "we" want to watch films
it's also hooked up to the surround amp, again, when "we" want to watch films and listen to the output on the 50"
but for when she wants to watch eastenders or the like, and me and junrio want to watch bob the builder or thomas the tank engine, or even roary the racing car, he doesn't like headphones on his ears so i need a set of spearkers that will do the job that the little puny ones in the built in moniter don't live up to

and if i were to be watching somethng naughty then i would listen to it on the headphones or turn the mute on

My mates logitech 5.1 speakers for £40 are excellent quality.

While I would agree that £30 speakers are generally going to be poorer quality, some of the better companies (read: not creative) like logitech do produce good quality speakers on a budget.

I need some new ones soon as my cambridge soundworks speakers are starting to cut out a bit. Haven't any suggestions yet though, haven't started looking properly.

i just have a lead running from the back of the pc to my sony hifi (a jack lead, with the red and white on the other end), lead cost me £5 now i have two 400 watt speakers (subs and surround sound also) of hifi quality music on my pc!!

i just have to remember to turn off the hifi before colsing down pc, cos the windows logging of sound can make you shit your self if youve just been listening to something loud on pc!
