Horrbile Dilema...
My missus has a standard Series 2 which she's had for the last 4 years and to be fair to the car its been pretty damn reliable but it has done 130,000 miles.
Well... We wanted to sell it as she fancies an RS1800i and like most turbos with some miles under their belt it was a bit rattly on the top end which would put some people off
SO... rather than just do the followers I got a 285 cam kit from my chums at Piper and had it fitted... lovely... nice and quiet, more torque... great, once the weather brightens up, get it cleaned, get it sold.
Anyway.. 4 weeks down the line
The car is now smokin like a mo-fo when cold but calms down when warm.
Cant decide where the problem is and this is where the dilema lies..
Do I :-
a) Spend some time & money having it looked at to establish the cause of the smoking ?
b) Do i just put a new turbo on it and hope for the best ?
c) Do I stick a bottom end in and then hope that cures it ?
d) Do I stick a whole motor including Turbo from e-bay or the small ads ?
e) Do I stick a Zetec bottom end in and do the ZVH Conversion ?
f) Do I stick a 1.8 Zetec in on a pair of 40's and run it round like that ?
g) Do I break it as its a pretty clean 90 spec car ?
h) Do I sell it off on ebay as is and just take what we get for it ?
Prior to these problems we would have sold the car for around £2000 so it seems mad to spend £1000+ on sorting it out.
Aaaaaaaaaaargh... what to do.........

Only a thought and I aint that technical but had a really bad smoking problem on an RS Turbo... thought it was the stem seals which is a pretty cheap job to do..... as soon as they were done the extra compression blew the turbo clean away.... so at that point we knew we needed a new one... only a thought...

Thanks for the suggestion Sarah, it could be that as the cam kit had all new seals, springs etc.
I may look out for a cheap Turbo on Gay-Bay see if that cures it.... thing is, dont really want to spend another £200-300 on a turbo and all the gubbins if its rings, or valve guides or something worse....
What a nightmare...
