Default Blue Ray/HD-DVD - UPDATE Have PS3 Now.

Just bought a nice HD TV and wanting to maximize its use.
I understand some thing is happening with HD DVD ie its being stopped.

Does this mean blue ray is the way to go.

Yeah, TIFF, Im currently one of them.

Lol, I was going to kill 2 birds with one stone and get a PS3. Will this be defeating the object. Would this provide a decent picture and offer me a great games console.

ps3 is a good way of offsetting the cost of a blue ray...

Blu-ray is the way forward.. A player can range in price from 250 -500 depending on manufactor.. But you can get a PS3 for 299.99 so what do you reckon would be the best deal?

HD READY tv doesn't mean anything really.. might do something shit like 576i LOL 1080 is what resolution you need. Get a HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) cable and link you choosen purchase to the TV. PROPER 1080P is amazing! And all Blu-ray films are 1080P...

The 2 minimum requirements for a TV to be classed as "HD Ready" are 1) minimum 720p, and 2) HDMI (HDCP enabled)

PS3's BluRay player will output full 1080p (dependant on film of course, but most are 1080p nowadays) but most, if not all, games are only 1080i (720p).

It also does a nice job of upscaling regular DVD's aswell to 720p/1080i

Main reason for that is because most people just want a bigger TV than CRT will allow (36" maximum for CRT), most people want thin/flat TV's (CRT fat and heavy!) and most people want to wall mount them (you try wall mounting a CRT )

I think they will go up in price actually. I reckon the 40GB model will be discontinued as the 60GB model was and the 80GB model introduced at a price to reflect the extra HD space.

If I was you I would buy now as with the format was (HD-DVD v Blu Ray) over, there is no real pressure on Sony to lower prices. I think there will only be a price cut if Microsoft lowers the Xbox 360 price which with GTA4 and Gear of War 2 coming out this year is unlikely.
