With the London Mayoral Election 2008 not that far away now, who do you think you'll be going to vote for and why?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7220411.stm

Seem to me that theres a chance that Ken won't get back in, especially with this possible Porsche law suit looming...

with all the crap going on with Ken and his office, i'd be seriously suprised if he gets back in. Brian Paddick banging on about getting tough on crime, well why didnt he get tough on crime when he was top dog in the police!?

boris seems to be the only option, although he did side step the congestion charge question

I'm not so sure about that.

Aside from the congestion charge, there's been loads of great stuff happen as a result of Ken's mayorship.

Loads of events, stuff going on etc...... and I hate the man!

I would have to agree with the above. The whole lot is a waste of money.

What has changed since we have had a Mayor? What benefits have we had?

It has ended up costing us alot more. We pay more living in London then ever before. Just look at the cost of travel.

On one hand he says I want people not to use there cars in London so adds a tax to stop people driving in london, but on the other he ups the cost of travelling by public transport. It is still cheaper and less hassle to take your car then travel by Public transport.

This is just one example. There are many failures.

No good stuff has come out of the mayor. Think about it this way, have we got real value for money from the mayor?

I liked how Boris wants to indentify all the crime blackspots and create a map of no go areas at night for Londoners.

Never once crossed his mind to get more police in there and do something about the problem

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2...ondon08.london

Only things for certain, is they will all be critical of Kens congestion charge but I dount any would actually remove it because it makes money, and they are all as bad as each other

exactly, Boris has said he wouldnt go ahead with the extention zone and would "restructor" the current system, and also use the facilities to catch untax/uninsured drivers

he's not "taxed" peole to drive in london, he's charging them for the privelige
and the cost of public transport has gone down, expecially on the buses due to his deal with the venazulains

anyone else want to jump on the "bash ken" bandwagon?

if him and boris were in equal charge it would be good, probably the best solution, but either would suffice for me
i'd vote ken in all honesty as he knows whats going on and has a plan, where as someone like boris needs to start gfrom scratch again

and paddick is just wasting his money

sorry but the price of transprt has gone dpwn IF you got a oyster card,,,, well actually its STILL gone up s the bus as 70p before the charge, then went up to " londons all one zone" and charging us 1 quid, then went to 1.50 or 1 quid on prepay then down to 90p on voting year

but then what about the fines you get when the barriers aint working you dont think about or your at a station that aint got barriers like finsbury park,, get charged 6 quid for it when its not even your fault !!!

why aint people in london paied better,,,,, higher minimum wage perhaps considering the avrage house price in london is 300k and the average private rent is 1300 quid a month and theres no REAL affordable housing being built as you need to earn a min of 30k in the actual city to qualify UNLESS your a key worker

none of it bothers me tbh as i dont go in the city and i already own a flat and i get paid ok but my sister has moved OUT of london for a better qualoty of life for her and to allow her to have a child and not be living on the bread line

hes ideas are all about getting people IN the city to get money from them,,,,, NONE OF THEM are for people who fucking live here or work here

Politics affects everyone, whether you're interested in them or not.

I don't follow it all closely, but if you have a view on something (ie Ken's a twat, the Congestion Charge is a form of robbery) then you are involved in politics I'm afraid, but I do know where you guys are coming from though

And I think Ken's a tosser and the sooner he gets ousted the better. The mans a total cunt. Not saying the rest are any better but for entertainment value and character Boris wins hands down !

Really?

Depends on whether you're interested in arts and culture I suppose.

Admittedly, public transport is his biggest issue (aside from the fact that he's a bigotted drunk!), but there's been plenty that he's done well.....

if you compare prices of travel from when there was no mayor of london and now, you would see a massive increase over time. In some cases you will see increases of over 30%.

For those who travel nearly everyday by train, I have to pay Ł11.80 per day for a travel card. Now before the mayor I used to pay Ł6.10. Now thats a massive increase. Nearly 50% increase in the cost of a travel card.

In addition you talk about paying the mayor a privledge to drive in London, I don't understand why we do. We never had to before, and we also pay road tax, so why is the roads in London any different to any other UK city. Ahhh must be conjustion, but this was never the case until the mayor started screwing with the traffic lights timings.

For those who drive in London, if you compare the amount of time you spend waiting at a traffic light and the amount of time the traffic light allows cars go through, you will see in rush hour only 5 cars will go through the lights.

In addition, how many people have tried parking in London on a street? It has become even more expensive and constantly parking wardens are trying to give you a ticket, and parking permits.

I think all these additional costs are not helping Londoners.

There are some major problems in London, transport system, crime, cost of living, lack of affordable housing, education, environment, health care and finally the youth. These are core issues. The arts and culture do not help solve these issues.
