Default legal advice please

Where do i stand.
I bought a car off e bay from a guy, paid cash, he was selling it on behalf of someone, ( the car was owned by a guy that had died some years earlier the blokes brother was selling it) part of a deciesed estate it says this on the logbook. Now the wife of the dead guy is taking the brother-in-law to court over stuff, you see the 2 of them (brothers) where in bissness together so the car was possibly a company car. I dont know what happened to the cash, but this has been going on over 2 years now and i still have not got the logbook in my name. I need to get the executor of the will to say that i have bought the car, but the wifes solicitor is telling her to wait as she is the executor not the brother-in-law. I am cought up in the middle of a family dispute and i cant see a way out. The wife has told me she does not want the car just the money off the brother. The brother is just bieng a jerk, see its not just the car there is more at stake (money), if i need to re tax it all i do is get the renewal of the brother and take it to the post office, which i have done twice now , it needs tax in march again so i will have to go and see him again. I hope he will sort it out for me,
What is my next step?
Any legal eagles out there. or any police men that could point me in the right direction.

Why not apply to DVLA for the logbook? They may write to the currently registered keeper (the executor?) for confirmation or they may just send you the V5, then the family can squabble among themselves while you get on with your life.

I didn't know you could tax the car with your insurance while it's still in their name. Doesn't that trigger a new logbook itself?

As said just apply for one, enclosing evidence of payment, they will send you one back letting the others carry on squabbling.
