right i'm ordering some tyres but wtf does it all mean.....i know the speed ratings (but that means at a constant speed) and extra load..???? but whats the best to get out of these (same tyre different prices)......
215/40/R17 Z XL.......???????
215/40/17 87Y......??????
215/40/ZR17 87Y XL with rim protector.....?????
does any of it really matter...cheers Pete

Consider re-moulds


It seem's either different compounds or tread pattern's?

they are all pretty mucht he same, just slightly higher speed ratings and 2 of them are extra load, any of them are fine!
Rim protecter is a lip of rubber that sticks out over the lip to help prevent you curbing your wheels.

yeh allready got one's with rim protector...................dont work at the speeds i hit curbs........

Which ever site you order from i'm sure you would get exacly the same tyre.
Websites arn't know for their accurate descriptions. All 452's have rim protector. And i'm sure 87Y would be the correct rating for that size.

You can always check Falkens website, can't remember what it is just google it.

If your car is fitted with for example 215/40/ZR17 XLs and you fitted 215/40/ZR17s it would give your insurance an excuse not to payout. Same if the weight index or speed rating are below OEM fitment.
Any reputable tyre shop shouldn't nail you with sub spec tyres provided you inform them of the intended application.

i was just wondering why there seems to be different choices in it, all the fk452's have a protector on, i wouldn't of said you needed extra load really. Nice choice of tyre, good VFM.
