Hi guys, my mate has a mk1 escort that he is restoring and the logbook he has for the car doesnt match the chassis number that he found under all the paint on the inner wing. He wants to try and find out the original reg for the car from the chassis number. Can a HPI check be done with just this number and would it then bring up the original reg? The dvla can do this, but he has to take the shell to them for verification, and he doesnt want to do this only for them to find out that it was nicked back in 1973 or something and they confiscate it off of him after all the hard work hes putting into it.

Any help much appreciated, and no i dont know any freindly coppers that could find out for him

it can be done, well find the original reg anyway, pm me the chassis num and ill see if i can find it at work tomorrow if you like.
