Default Roof replacement - Like this??

I just happened to be looking at Central Blast Cleaning website, and came across this. Was interested to see that they have documented roof replacement on a MK4 Escort, but not in the way I have seen it done before. They say theirs is the right way!

It looks like they have just cut/joined the pillars? I'm showing my ignorance here. I'm also not trying to say that they have done it wrong, but interested in the facts!

Nice looking project though.

Christian are you thinking about replacing the roof on your Rs with another second hand roof section?

Only thing id sugest is to stagger the cuts, ie; cut the outter skin at one height and the inner skin at another height, would make the join a lot stonger and make it easyer to line everything up.

In my humble opinion the best way would be to just remove the roof skin.I dont see the point in removing the whole roof structure.Especially if you just wanted to get rid of the dreaded rust behind the sunroof.Regards,Micky

Thats pretty much what I had settled on as being the way to do it.

I guess Central Blast were rectifying a previous bad job.

Linsay, is it someone you know doing it? I'd be interested in what its costing (obviously not that relevant if it's 'mates' rates!). PM me if you like.

I fancy the idea of not seeing it 'in progress', or at the other end of the spectrum, tackling it myself.

It is someone i know, Christian I have seen his work on other cars and one that i did not realise he had repaired

We're not sure on cost yet, but i know we can't get a new roof skin as he's checked and it's kind of being done on the basis that he knows i'm keeping the car (replacing the roof is not really economically viable) so i know it's not going to be cheap, but he'll do it as cost effective as possible for me

I'm looking to have it done at about the end of March or into April, would be nice to have it done for Central day

I'll PM you some details when i've been to see him about another repair he's doing first
