Default Mondeo 2003 TDCI 115 or 130?

We looked at and test drove four diesels yesterday - MG 54 reg 2.0 TD, 2001 BMW 320D, 2001 Audi A4 130 TDi and 2003 Mondeo TDCI - the MG was a nippy sporty car (but not much of a cruiser!) the BM slow (not sure what bhp it was) the Audi seemed very plain inside, the Mondeo actually seemed the best car!

Now 115ps under the bonnet surely denotes that its a 115, yet the chap has it for sale as a 130, even though pointed out 115 he says 'yeah it is a 130 though' this can't be right?

Oh yeah it did pull really well, just thinking of knocking him down as he advertised it as a 130 when it clearly isn't, said would have the cam belt changed too - its chain driven iirc

Yes, thats another possibilty, forgot about that in my haste this morning.

The Evolution Chip would give it about 30bhp and is cheaper than Dreamscience.

Are Dreamscience doing Diesel models now? And are the gains the same as MSD?

Are the gains all that important?
I mean you could whack it up a fair bit, but they'll only take so much before the clutch/box etc shits itself.

I doubt it will be as good as MSD. My friends would do 700+ miles to a tank and that wasn't driving slow.

I've had a Evolution Chip in my Golf PD 150 for 50k miles with no problems and every week it still does 500miles per tank.

I dont think a chipped 130 diesel will worry the running gear too much when the ST uses the same stuff. Hardly as if its expensive anyway. Thats why i've got a mondeo! I changed the fromt discs and pads at the weekend with Mintex vented discs and 1144 pads for Ł55 all in

but your forgetting the ooodles of extra torque...

It will shorten clutch and drive-chain life - but thats true of tuning any car lol

you couldn't have been flogging it all that hard imo if you got a genuine 49mpg just on the 'ring

I've seen it being driven very hard, and it was still doing a genuine 51mpg.

As I said above, I got my 115 TDCi a few days ago, but it's a bit smokey when you boot it. At first I just reckoned it needed clearing out as an old lad had it for 2 years before me and never reved it above 2.5k. Should I be worried or will it just take a few days to clean out???

I have the 115 as a daily driver and its spot on. It aint quick but does good economy and keeps up with the traffic jam.

The smoke should clear if you boot it a bit, I like to 'save' the smoke and boot it past joggers or groups of chavs to smoke them out!
