Default Petrol smell....please HELP!!

Ok, I know, its a Vauxhall.....sorry

But really in need of some help here guys!

My 1990 Cav SRI MK3 (C20 SEH) smells of petrol. I parked her in the garage last night, went to take her out this morning and when opened the garage door I was greeted by a heavy smell of petrol. I moved the car out and no signs of any leaks?? I started to give her a wash in the carpark and again I keep on smelling petrol. Any ideas as I have 2 daughters and dont want to drive around with this smell.

Any advice/help would be great.

Oh..... The car was hardly used last year and I have only had her a couple of weeks putting £10's in petrol. The other night I put in £37.00...... dont know if that could have done something?

Paul.

What do you reckon bud, is it leaking, will the smell go away if the petrol drains a bit?

Thank you

Run the car untill the smell dissapears

Or fit a new tank

The common things, and most likely by the sound of yours are, fuel tank (usually the seam), metal fuel lines from pump which go over the tank and also the pipe on the pressure regulator.

All easy enought to fix.

It should be fine to drive as long as its not pissing fuel all over the place. I drove my Cavalier about with a leaky fuel pipe for days till I got a chance to fix it. Cost me a fortune in fuel tho.
