I've had 2 in the last 1 1/2 years. Kind of made me think a little bit about do I really want to be driving a sierra it 160+ at any time ever on the road as you'd be fucked if the same happened!

i had similar happen last year in my Movano works van.

tad under 90mph and the nearside rear wheel shreaded its tread, tyre stayed inflated but the whole outer tread was gone, just a few metal wires sticking out, took the side of the van out at the same time and dragged me accross 2 lanes within seconds.

i seriously shit myself, lucky nothing was immediatly along side me when it happened!

Glad your ok tho mate.

Tell you something else too. I watched a program once and they showed a road maintenance truck with a big magnet on the front drive down one lane of a main road and the things it picked up... Its a wonder blow outs dont happen more often really!

glad your ok mate but its just all part of learning imo
i was flat out in my old 325i sport on the way to a pf meet one time and had a blow out on the front.was an indicated 140 sumthing on the speedo
luckily only swerved across one lane and just avoided the kerb of the central reservation .
stoped to change tyre and felt fine wasnt till spare was on and started moving again that the shock of would could have happened hit me.think i was a tad lucky my mate followed through i think tho

he put a pirelli pzero on this, but this will probably make him think a bit more about how important the bits of rubber are on your wheels and we all spend Ł000's on our cars and several of us moan at spending an extra Ł50 on getting top class tyre to run of the mill ones.

last year i hired a luton van to help my sister move house, whilst travelling along the M1 at 70mph , one of the rear tyres blew taking the wheel next to it out aswell (twin wheeler thingie), i absoultly shit myself, it jumped sideways and felt like it could roll over at any minute, how i managed to catch it and control it, still amazes me today!

i would as you've probably spent a fair few quid on suspension parts to be let down by dodgy rubber. forgot to mention earlier that the lad who put the new tyre on picky775's car said he should keep them at 40psi so as not to let them get so hot as he says that is what causes this to happen on the bigger tyres the heat build up causes a problem internally and whoosh your all over the road. anyone else been told this?

Lucky one there mate, the tyres look in good condition to. I had a blow out a few years ago having a bit sport in my old Saph with a bike, front drivers side blew a split in the inside about 8 inches long, the noise was mad, the poor lad on the bike who was level with me at the time got a shock to, really loud bang! car never budged much at all, the tyres i used at the time were Avons and i know from getting them fitted before and having a propper nightmare to get them on the rims they were a really hard tyre, so i dont know if that helped but i thought at (them) speeds it would have span and been on its bloody roof. i always kind of think of that now.

tyres were mint mate it was the actual inside of the tyre wall had worn away coz it was low on pressure so it was rubbin against itself inside the wheel and heating up but obviously you couldnt see it it will just make me think a bit now when im on the motorway,it will always be in the back of my mind

Think that was proably the problem with mine to mate. The wheels i bought were second hand and had been on an ultra low saph, so you dont know what damage had been done before i got them. Thats a lovely looking Escos rep you've got there mate, looks the bizz, the Rondells/Engles look the part, Mark
