the csl is listed as 360bhp with a 0-60 of 4.9 seconds. only 17bhp more than the standard e46 m3's 343bhp. my 282 bhp cossie e30 touring keeps up with the standard m3 all the way up to 120 so the excess weight must play a big part.

if i could afford to,i would have a good spec mk2 shell,or a complete car now also to terrorise the super cars.you cant beat a big power cossie at full chat..........until something breaks, then its more money......some people go on and on(yourself dave, dingy, martoon, mad yum, rod, etc etc etc),others give up spending fortunes only for the car to keep breaking and move on...

all im trying to say is the m3 csl IS a great car.

ask 100 people in the street whether they'd prefer an old escort or a nice new(ish) CSL and you'll have a similar answer to what the bloke was proberly thinking

at TOTD my car made 435bhp, it has a bit more boost now so should now make a bit more,,,,,,,,,

on the way home the other day i had to give it a bit of power to get past a motorbike, some chap in a E30 318 BMW then tries to race me i was quite beamused, i didn't race, just drove along normally watching him nearly crash trying to race away from me

i could just imagine him telling all his mates how he 'smoked an escort cosworth'

Dingy on the straights at Donno you were pulling away from my 996 Turbo like I had thrown a land anchor out the window!!! and I have to say the Porsche is a VERY fast car!!! well over 500bhp and nothing gets near it on the road! raced my mates new M5... V10? V5 more like!

Tuned Cossies are mentally fast when you get them in the zone! and yours weighs nothing!

by the way though... when Rainbum was out driving my car... he started to pull back on you I await the 'I had no traction comments'

For a faggot Rainbum can really drive and that was he first time ever in a 911!!!!

oh and P.S.... even though you know I think your car is very very cool.... I'll take the CSL thanks

CSL is only 247bhp per Tonne. Stage 2 cossie power to Weight arena.

Whats yours? about 500bhp Per Tonne?

Hardly a massive achievement even "if" yours was 380bhp per Tonne.

When I read some of your posts, I get the impression you think your car is fast, its an old Escort & like a slug on prozac compared to a fast car. You are getting a little old for all this boy racer 'road' kill rubbish surely.

Oh Rod, please dont His car is mentally fast and would beat a majority of supercars on the road, just because it would get destroyed by YOUR car, why does that make it a slow? Get a grip man. Your car would get destroyed by some cars in existance, dont make your car slow does it...
Nothing wrong with going fast on the road either, you do it, youve posted about if before.

Pretty obvious Dingys car would absolutley murder a CSL in a straight line, easily in the way he was saying too.
Really suprises me how people seem suprised and disbeliving sometimes, like they have never raced anything fast but standard before.
Even power to weight ratios show that Dingys car should have rolling start acceleration better than most supercars, and thats not even factoring in all the torque he will have compared to them.

TBH thats what i miss most about not having my Cossie, racing expensive stuff, its a win-win situation, as the other people are either suprised but cool and happy and smiley, which is cool, or they suprised and PROPERLY wounded about it (usually after telling their mate/mrs "ill show these boyracers in their old ford") getting mullered by something they dont think will be fast.

I doubt that, as I doubt that guy realised how much money etc he had spent on the Mk2, id guess he was properly suprised/gutted.

Of course most people would want the CSL tho, i dunno why people always mention that, bit daft/pathetic really as its not about that.

@ Rod, why don't you get your one trick pony on track and shut Dingy up

Dingy well done but I do hope you weren't suprised that you beat a CSL in a straight line

Fitting a powerful engine in a light car is obviously going to make it faster than most things, isn't that why we do it

No modified cosworth can really offer what a CSL does out of the box, speed, handling, comfort and reliability, what else can you want.

I have said it before Dingy, put your money where your mouth is and enter a championship, if your car is that quick point to point then you will obviously do well, and rightly can brag as much as you like when your winning.

Even though I'm building one I'm not that naive to think that I won't get my arse handed to me by other cars, plenty of cars out there that would out handle a mk2 escort, I'd be inclined to say one with a T34 would be faster

Its a shame that it always comes down to this shit though , I totally agree the r/r figures were crap and I think many others would agree. (except DD setup owners )

Its something that Dingy had said before which was why I mentioned it.

I'm starting to lean that way myself, my engine builder swears I'm doing the wrong thing by using a T38 although he did say its a better option than a T4.

Its a hard one to call, we all want power but its been proven many times that you dont need to chase numbers to be fast point to point.

Who's interested in seeing a power graph just showing 360hp though

Well, only if you obsessed with the fastest times everywhere.

But unless you racing id say car ownership is mostly about fun, and Dingys car sure as fuck looks mega fun.

you also need traction to get fast times.

its only a mk.2 escort, fook all weight wise, so really big power not needed imo, well, for the purpose of my car, mainly a track car.

a think 380-400 will suit me.

Lol

Out of ALL the cars on this site i'd say Dingys gets the most abuse and looks like he most fun to me, as a casual observer. Year after year I see pictures of it at Donno and the Ring and Croft, always looking good and going well. Not many of the other 'big' cars on here get as much (ab)use.

And its fairly quick too lol

Just because you dont all go in for that road kill stuff, if thats what he enjoys in the car he's built then let him get on with it. We dont ALL have to think the same way.
