What vehicle is it mate as that will change the costs slightly.

I've been converting cars for 3 1/2 years now, I'll admit were not the cheapest but we do work to a VERY high standard which is a lot more than I can say for some installers.

Depends what car it is on as some are a piece of cake to do diy, some a royal pain.
There is as said a LOT of difference in quality of fitting, and is defo worth paying extra for decent job.
Setting up may often need to be done on a compy linked to ecu, plus any extras like spark advance units.

Thought so as I'd never heard of a diesel LPG.

There are people out there doing it, we don't get involved in it at all as from what I'm aware it damages the engines quickly.

Lorrys use it for torque gains I believe, its something I've really not had any involvement in it as were so busy doing the petrol vehicles.

Just to put things into perspective about LPG, one of our customers saved 2 million pounds last year through running their entire fleet on LPG, now that shows that the cost of converting over is well worth it

I had my Rangey converted here in New Zealand and it is worth it but the MPG we are getting on LPG is crap compared to on petrol...... Any reason why Jonny? The guys that done it told us it would run 1 to 1 with petrol consumption.

My brother in law also has same 4.4 Vogue Rangey and on some journey we ran his on petrol mine on gas, his used about 37 litres of petrol and mine used 46 litres of LPG.

LPG costs $1 a litre here so I was $46
Petrol is around $1.70 so he was $62.90

So if MPG was the same the difference would be huge!!!

mpg will never be the same as I believe the calorific value of the fuel is lower and you are also burning it very inefficiently by maintaining the ability to run petrol as well (low CR, retarded ignition etc.) Ive often been curious what the results would be if you built and mapped an engine properly for lpg only.

As for the diy option, what exactly can you get away with? Id imagine insurance companies would demand a corgi or other certificate for installations?

Insurers often ask for a CERTIFICATE of correct installation which is typically £35, they just check to see you have done it right and issue a certificate.
The calorific value depends on whether it is BUTANE or PROPANE, as they are both used and are both different, butane is better by the way.
You can pick up MORE power than a petrol by using SPARK ADVANCERS, if mapped on gas they are more efficient power per litre, AND more powerful, but need correct mapping just like petrol engines to achieve unltimate results.
Diesels can be converted to run petrol but is a lot of work, and not financially viable.
But diesels can be run 100% on HEATING OIL, just put in 2% KLOTX TECHNIPLATE mix, a rangey I helped convert 9 years ago is still running this with over 250,000 miles on it, and HAS been stopped and dipped.
There is no DYE in heating oil as it attacks the seals in heating systems.
