i have something similar, a qnap TS-101 Network Attached Storage

http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=67

it's plugged in to my wireless router so that any device in the house (nokia N95, Archos 604, laptop, Playstation 3 etc) can connect to it and view movies and photos and play music.

i got that one as it came preloaded with Slimserver that I need to play music using my squeezebox in the kitchen and bedroom without having to have a pc switched on.

very pleased with it all

thedaddie, that looks good - just such a shame that you've got all that storage sat there that you can't access from your PC without plugging in the USB. Would be nice if it had a network connection...

Unless I missed it

St3V3_C you're right, they only work as storage with a usb connection. if you want a network connection, you need a NAS like i linked to

the squeezebox is a lovey thing, really nice to use with the remote. the search and browse works beautifully.

only works for music though, no photo or video capability

i haven't seen a cd for ages - they're all boxed up in the loft. whatever you do, make sure you have a backup of all your digital media as ripping it and tagging all your music takes ages
