I've got cosworth cams now and mine is 260bhp 260ib/ft @10psi after it's latest re-map
supercharging sounds nice, but do i lose tha air con?
if so not intrested

turboing has it's own issues

does it eing an auto affect what can be done to it?

The fiesta st's that are supercharged still have aircon mate, what car is it in?

Not sure on the auto issue as it's never been done AFAIK

If you want supercharging talk to Jamsport, turbo talk to Performace3000

But i'll answer what I can

with a supercharger instalation, it seems it's a fit and forget job with no other precautions really needed for it to all work

with the turbo, you need to warm it up, cool it down, etc, change the oil more regulalry, it can stick open, it can stick clsoed, and everythign else

s/c seems to be the more relaxed way to gain a bit of power and not have to fiddle with it every weekend to make sure it's working tippity top

plus, a s/c will sound cool

ok dojj seen your point mate but i've had no trouble with mine and I was the 1st with performance 3000

It's personal preferance at the end of the day but give me turbo spool/chatter over a whine any day

it's on a mk3 mondeo auto
the power is there if you spank it, but not if you cruise it along, and after havign driven a lot of pwoerfull motors, it just doesn't seem to have the same urgency of the others, the estate was just brutal all out givei ti beans and it felt like your face was melting, but it had enough torque to pottle around town in 5th at 25 mph

i'd be driving the rs2 about the place if it wern't for the fact it's left hand drive and after about 2 weeks i just coulnd't get used to it

or i'd get myself another 24V granada because, again, the power was there if you needed it but it sucked up just as much juice as the mondeo does with 60 brake more

even my old twinky was fun due to it's ultra long gearing meansing i could see 70 in second at 6000 rpm and virtually max it out in 3rd at about 110 (plus 78 mpg on one particular run wasn't too bad either )

plus having been in the cossie for a few years it sort of spoilt me as to what to expect from a car

now i've got a normal boggo standard car that i can enjoy i'm not sure if i want to spend mroe money on it, or just buy another car that'll do the job for me already

In N/A form it is achievable to get over 300bhp, the heads are a very good design, but it is a Mazda engine after all.

Motor Design in Sweden have just developed there own head casting which can take 37mm inlet valves and has 3kg more alloy in it for extra strength for turbo use, at £12k a pop there not cheap. Some of the rallycross teams are currently testing them.

There was a recent article in Racecar Engineering about it.

If any of you are looking to turbo one to reasonable levels, dont bother as the blocks are alloy and will split, even with liners, best going for an iron block motor IMO

I believe Ford Motorsport have there own special alloy blocks they have had made for the WRC to handle the torque.

Hi Guys
I am thinking of building a duratec,
I have a 2.3 MPS mazda engine and wanted to go N/A they have said i will be better off starting again with a N/A duratec
has anybody played with the MPS engine yet?
I know with the turbo they are 260 standard
one problem i know is the head is direct injection

people seem to prefer to tune the 2.0 rather than 2.3, is there any reason for this?

because the 2.0 is peanuts and is found in most mondeos you can pick up for a few hundred quid
the 2.3 is found in america, so it's going to cost 5 times a such

these cosworth cams for the duratec are probably cheaper than you can get them from over here:

http://focus.c-f-m.com/cosworthperfo...3lduratec.aspx

a guy over on MEG had them on his 2.0 mk3 mondeo, along with dreamscience map, induction kit, decat, bigger exhaust system and throttle body it made 180bhp (not bad for straight forward bolt-ons) which i think is probably about the limit of the standard injectors?

he did get the cosworth inlet manifold aswell (pictured earlier in the thread which gained him some bhp but lost him torque, he said he preferred the standard inlet).

these arent blistering figures i know, i'm just saying for those who dont want to spend big bucks.

the standard clutch starts slipping at around 210-220bhp iirc (thats in a heavy mondeo though, might be not so bad in smaller cars)

but that adds up to a lot of money in real terms doens't it

cams
map
filter kit
exhaust
tb
probably looking at the thick of of £2k for the lot, fitting and mapping variable so thats still probably not as cost affective as bolting on a turbo/super charger
