Well once the gearbox problem is solved then the diffs will blow...
So that will be another £3K for 9" rear if you can find one in 3.4 ratio...
Then the front will explode (don't trust R&D) and if your really unlucky take the sump/engine with it....
Pete Doughty showed me an xtrac 7" (or was it 7.5") once - that was £5K-£7k plus the price of the fancy mag sump and shafts....
But what you really need is an 8.5" diff but then you need a left hand drive car...
What will happen here is you will keep wasting money and never really get to enjoy the car until one day you break it for spares.
(I suspect your like me Dave - the money (at the moment ) is not an issue, its the time off the road and not getting to drive ir enjoy it which is the real problem!)
If I was you I would go 2wd. Tremec like rods, 9" rear diff or the jag diff route. This way you stand a chance of getting some use out of the car and not giving up and breaking it for parts.
Also Dave remember you have built a very quick road car. NOT a full on sponsored competition car were ever single second counts. Stop worry about the stupid records - who really gives a fuck (apart from Rod ?

its a slippery slope, sell the engine and build a car you'll enjoy and can use!
also you wont catch martins new car anyway! so if you do beat him to it, you wont hold the record for long anyway lol.

I think if you beat martin, it wont be for long.
Mind you, I dont know how much emphasis you would personally place on saying "this car was once the fastest escort cossie in the country/world" etc, that to you might be worth something still 2 years later after martin has got "his" record back.

Sell it and buy a proper car!
Nasty moneypits!
I don't know ONE person who misses their big power Cossie!
or sell all the trick bits and stick it on a GT30 and have a reliable and responsive and still mentally fast road car
Do something though mate... as its clear all Yum is doing is being a pain in the ASS and you are REALLY not enjoying it...
I'd be tempted to offload that awesome engine for a LOVELY profit and build a nice and comparatively cheap 550bhp GT30 engine and enjoy Yum again.
By the way.... all this talk of Skyline Boxes... JUST BUY A SKYLINE!!! better roadcars in EVERYWAY!!! a nice R34 would keep Helen happy I suspect as well!

[quote="MAD YUM"]
yes, your going to make a fuck load of money on the engine anyway, and do you really need all that power? wasted on a car without a proper drivetrain/suspension.
and 2wd would be more of a straight liner anyway with all that torque, your not going to put it all down without sacrificing alot of cornering ability
It does have Leda 3 way adjustable all round worth over 2.5k
how is the leaker sorry i mean leda worth 2.5k? or do you not mean £'s?
£2500 Thats correct, as specced by Danny B. In fact Danny got a discount as they were priced at £2700. They may not be everyones choice who are running competitive cars but Gareth Lloyd certainly didnt mind them.

Been offered it back with standard rear shaft back but then ive got the job of fitting it and then when the shaft is ready taking it out getting it to Martin then when Martin has it back picking it up and fitting it again.
Wont be doing that
So what now???????
Maybe change it to 2wd drive then will have some capital on all the stuff l can sell of yum..
Or what other boxes are there?????
Maybe sell the engine and just stick in a 400bhp engine and have done

Marco, is any box going to take being abused that hard ?
Side stepping the clutch is a sure way to smash the box to bits.
My next concern would be that rear diff.
As mentioned there is no cheap way round it sadly

I would say go with Baras offer of sorting the box just now untill the new shaft is made. What does it take a couple of hours to switch a box over , mibi you won't get a chance to go try brake records for a few months but atleast you will have a running car that you can use.

Got to agree with most of what's being said really.
I don't really think you anything to prove at all. Everyone knows Mark builds mental engines, and with a solid gearbox, your car would definitely bang in some quick acceleration times, and a mental top speed.
But to what end?
GT30, decent box, and then get it out on the track IMO. Make it mega responsive like I'm told Porkie's is, and go have some fun with it on the track..... where you get to use a car properly, utilising all aspects of driving ability.
Have you much experience of RWD though, as it's a very different animal. At that level of power, I can't even imagine what it would be like.
Also, RWD with 500bhp+ and it's hardly a useable road car anyway, with our weather etc.... Consequently, it's not the best track car either!
Depends what you want out of a car though. Unless you run a tuning shop, or are heavily sponsored, or have money to burn, you're throwing money away.
When you think about it, it's absolute madness. For what you've spent, you've got 1x911 Turbo, and no hassle.

Dave,
I would not ever consider converting your car to 2wd unless you only want to straight line it at brunters but even if you beat my speed you will know deep down that it was 2wd
I have to say that IMHO it was nothing to do with monster power/torque why the mainshaft broke it was more to do with material used for it's manufacture or treatment used and I reckon the std shaft would have been more durable.
I think your options are:
1/ 2wd and be ready for it everytime it comes on boost and be content with getting lapped on track.
2/ Give the Bara box another go
3/ Go GTR33 Skyline conversion.. Much faster and precise gear change than an an MT75, cheap to replace if/when it pops.
4/ Chop it up and buy a Porsche as hardly anyone is interested in going for top speed honours any more and for track use Helens car would be ok with a few mods.
Martoooooooooon.

That was official with a slip
Used to measure against the Pod's times with a G Tech meter and it used to tally within 1/100 th of a second to what the Pod said on almost every run
Never run up at the Pod near the end, due to little probs stopping me, like ripping the gear stick out on the way up to Central day , but on that meter the best I saw at its final level of tune was a 10.6 , really wished I'd got it up there to get the ticket with the bragging rights
But one Saturday before a race day, had a slight misfire but couldnt resist still using the gas, had arranged to buy one of Stus ignition systems, may have even been the first to give a definant yes , and had a new dizzy cap on the passenger seat next to me, but on the way home just had to give it some for some reason, cant even remember now, but with a 150 shot of gas up it it didnt like missing and me not lifting , one of the more severe results of that was blew a lump out my head not to mention the pistons turbo and block , so when it was all taken apart and inspected I decided then what Yum may be thinking now, just how MUCH was it gonna cost to make it go again, or how i would have wanted it to, which obviously would have meant faster lol, but in the end decided it had cost me enough, and that wernt only financialy, it also played a part in a split with my ex wife of 12 years , not just the money but the time and effort spent on it
So that was the end of H1 4ORD
Steve Scott bought it off me, kept some bits for himself sold the rolling Chassis, and kept the plate on retention, dunno he may still have the plate dont know, really gotta go up and see the old boy , just dont find the time .
Steve
such a shame she not around now.it was a real legend in my eyes.it didnt shout look at me but just went about business in a quiet way and banged the goods out who built it out of curiosity? think i may have to hunt for my photos and take a trip down memory lane.

DAVE, i reallly think going 2wd would be a big mistake.it will totally change the car from what you are used to and more than likely spoil your fun with it.thats alot of bhp to try and keep straight and you would be forever fighting with it and be on egde.
i'd say give bara another try and see what happens myself.

Dave,
Personally I don't think you should RWD. I think give the Bara a go as like Martin I don't think the power killed it ! Side steppin the clutch, shock loading & as stated the material used all contributed to the failure.
Then if that doesn't last go for the Skyline box if you haven't given up by then & done ya self some damage by banging ya head agains't a brick wall !
It wasn't so much the power that killed the box as it's my understanding the engine isn't producing full power in 1st gear ? There's not enough load on the engine to produce full boost etc ? ? ? Could be wrong, I know Dave was using L/C & gettin 1 bar on idle. Would it go the full 2+ bar boost in 1st ?
Good luck Dave, really feel for ya & the gearbox (and my driving style) was one of the main motorvations behind mine stayin 2wd. I know I not quite got your power but still enough to warranty k's on a decent 4wd box !
jb
p.s. Don't break it ! ! !

far better car, Looks better, less money, more reliable and FAR cooler... why try and break records when you can be da king and da queen of cruizes
What does the Escort do now apart from break down and cause stress?!?!? You don't have to drive the Skyline fast to enjoy it either! and on todays roads what the point of a 660bhp Ford Escort?!?!?
Mike Rainbird borrowed it for 2 weeks and really didn't want to give it back. Its a proper car and REAL headturner!
and handles like you would not believe on track for its size. No leaky Ledas and semi trailing arm shite! .... Nismo G-attack suspension made by OHLINS.
