sorry for sounding a div . ive only ever launched by sitting there with revs up and dropping it.
yes. The way you say you do it will tear transmissions to bits in seconds ...

My method of launching.....: . Set your revs to where you want , i.e 5500 RPM, then just ease the clutch in until the car starts to move forwards slightly, then without changing the clutch or the throttle settings, hold the car on the handbrake until it comes to a standstill. Then when you want to go feed the clutch up but as you do give it more throttle to stop it bogging down, at the same time as you release the handbrake. Then it's a balancing act between throttle/clutch/traction and revs until it's rolling properly with as little wheelspin or bogging as you can get against the speed of the throttle coming in ... get it right and the car will launch like a cat with a poker up it's ass

and just so that you can concentrate on getting to the shops without having to take your hands off the wheel - PADDLE SHIFT - works great with that x-trac

be a shame to go for 2wd now Dave.

all this should have been thought of before you got the power out of the engine etc...

and please, don't break it etc..when you do get the figures you are after.

hope you sort something out.

It was thought out, Fixit box meant to be very strong and would easily handle it lasted 20miles at power,
Bara box hopped/thought to be strong enough lasted about 20 miles and 1 launch.
It apears we keep braking them maybe our Torque is real .

Theres quite a few in Sweden and upto 730hp as far as I am aware and these are meant to have no problems, This was discussed with the supplier of the box and was expected to have no problems,
Fixit offers a warrenty on these also but as we now know you cant get **** from them to fixit .

And don't forget most of these uprated boxes are based on a STD mainshaft. The Bara uprated mainshaft was the first failure they have had, and from what I hear, they are VERY upset at the failure and have doing a number of metalurgical analyisis to find out what caused the problem, and will then address what they can.

Don't forget again that where the mainshaft broke, you are physically constrainded about how big you can make the shaft , as it has to run through the VC etc.....

Hence boxes like FFD/ R&D etc can design out the inherant problems with a std box.

And Launching a 1400Kgs road car thats prob well over 1500kgs with driver and fuel etc against 530 Lbs/ft from a standstill will test most trannys fairly hard ...

Hi Mark

why dont Dave try Mullit box with the standard mainshaft ?

the standard mainshaffts are hit and miss some break and some dont some are stronger than others

one good thing he never broke the gears so that was good news for us

he told me have gave the box total abuse allday ??

second lauched killed uprated mainshaft 7K side steped off the clutch

personally think the uprated mainshaft was porus

Well good on you for building the car but i have thought about uping the power in my escort for a few years now (600 + bhp ect ) but i havent and the main reason is gear box to build a car to this level right cost loads and then its all on the limit so if you use it hard you will brake parts and this costs big time much better of buying a much faster car to start of with as in the long run it costs less and is also worth more if / when you sell it. Its nice to say you have an escort cos that does this and does that but in the real world you probley wish you had your old spec car as that was fast enouth and you could use it and it didnt brake all the time, for me if you want to go fast and last go buy a gt3 job done

cheers

Mark Shead

ok, was not sure on what the other cars ran.

have to get them to compensate for the build of the engine then as its useless without a box that cannot cope.

hope it gets sorted.

Not being nasty at all mate, but I would say that is probably the reason it failed... All that torque being smashed against a stationary transmission with all the backlash before it gives the shafts no chance.... imagine running into a shut door shoulder first, as fast as you can, or leaning into the door and pushing against it hard, it is the sudden impact that hurts your shoulder, not pushing hard against it..... If you get what I mean?

Yep low-mid 11's way "back then"

That was official with a slip

Used to measure against the Pod's times with a G Tech meter and it used to tally within 1/100 th of a second to what the Pod said on almost every run
Never run up at the Pod near the end, due to little probs stopping me, like ripping the gear stick out on the way up to Central day , but on that meter the best I saw at its final level of tune was a 10.6 , really wished I'd got it up there to get the ticket with the bragging rights

But one Saturday before a race day, had a slight misfire but couldnt resist still using the gas, had arranged to buy one of Stus ignition systems, may have even been the first to give a definant yes , and had a new dizzy cap on the passenger seat next to me, but on the way home just had to give it some for some reason, cant even remember now, but with a 150 shot of gas up it it didnt like missing and me not lifting , one of the more severe results of that was blew a lump out my head not to mention the pistons turbo and block , so when it was all taken apart and inspected I decided then what Yum may be thinking now, just how MUCH was it gonna cost to make it go again, or how i would have wanted it to, which obviously would have meant faster lol, but in the end decided it had cost me enough, and that wernt only financialy, it also played a part in a split with my ex wife of 12 years , not just the money but the time and effort spent on it

So that was the end of H1 4ORD
Steve Scott bought it off me, kept some bits for himself sold the rolling Chassis, and kept the plate on retention, dunno he may still have the plate dont know, really gotta go up and see the old boy , just dont find the time .

I would give Bara another chance as they have said they will give a refund if it breaks again and the weather is crap and you still need to fit the wheels, So the extra time should fly by.

Sensible talk IMHO

I cant believe how impatient dave is being, its not like wanting an off the shelf waterpump for a 1.6 focus or something that he is waiting on!

My torque was VERY REAL running less power (check terminal speeds ) and to get the times I did, it was all about me getting off the line, and the torque of the car, but altho my launches were hard, it was a hard in a controlled way, could feel the car trying to twist and the wheel trying to go both ways (spose like a fwd car torque steer).
My sis once drove it up the Pod and ye she could drive it (she had done a low 12 in it ) but when it was running mid 11's she had a go in it and said she never would again, she said she was no longer in control, it would just go where it wanted to, when it pushed her back in the seat she couldnt keep her self close enough to the wheel or have the strength to control the wheel either.

Now THAT torque, and like ive said I never broke my old Quaife

Just want to rip up some tarmac somewhere
500bhp and be happy if you want it on the road 90%+ of the time IMHO

Pushing boundaries and breaking records by its very nature means having the car mainly in an unfinished state.

personally ..... theres all different grades of metal with different flex strenth ratings

what you have to remeber is you can only get a certin size mainshaft and gears in the MT75 casing

thats why the x trac/ FFd are bigger boxes to take bigger gears ect

i could get the whole kit made in" titainium" who would buy one

not to botherd about refunds just want to offer a good product for right price

might be working on a 2 piece mainshaft for the MT75 two small pieces are better than one long piece
