i have an idea of how to import a car in, but whats involved when de reg'ing a car and shipping from another country into the uk?

is it along these lines?

de reg car from that country,
load it up

I have imported 10+ shipping container from china and if it was me i would find the car i wanted buy it legaly in whateve country it is you are buying it from get the relevent paperwork to say that the car is yours and that you are the owner and then just have it shipped home, or better still drive it home

once the car is here in the UK Revenue and Customs will contact you if they dont hold the car while its being sorted for you to pay Import duty and VAT, once that is sorted then i expect it is just like regestering a new car

there's not much to discuss - it depends on the country you are exporting it from, but basically it is as you say

so as far as de reg'ing the car from the country, who does that? and what kind of costs are there? and who do i go to for shipping the car? is there anything else?
