Im not picking a fight here but at what speed is deemed to be pushing things to far.....

Is there not a limit at which the car will want to flip...

im hoping for a 180mph run this year... I know of another fiesta wanting more.... but at what speeds would downforce be seriously needed, surely over 200 mph in a sierra is on that boundary of lift...

GAS is cheating if anything is
Why is it cheating, can you quantifie your comment Andrew ?

If GAS is cheating is ALS not cheating or Water Injection?

It is a performance enhansing product that if specced in the build/engine will no doubt have good cooling effects and performance benifits

Mike

gas is only a quick fix perfomance enhancment not used in any msa race/rally series that i know of

still never ment it WAS cheating
Topspeed is not a race/rally series Andrew its aim is to go as fast as possible in 1.5miles.
We can do 200mph off gas no doubts, but not 215mph which is our next target to do that will require circa 1000bhp.
It takes around 720bhp to pull 200mph down Brunters if you have less its unlikely to happen. Forget late braking it makes no difference, look at your graph your car was flat out well before the end & gaining very little speed, 170-180 increment is over 60% slower than mine & from then on its all about Power.

ok

Dave the only dip I can see is your 4th to 5th gear change, If you look at your graph it was still pulling very well,
If you look at the last few 10mph box's yours had not stopped accelerating so looking at this putting the slightly taller gearing will make it go faster .

talking about graphs if yum reckons theirs would of made nearer 200 does this not mean his curve would of been above mine till it hit the limiter?

What i meant was did he lift earlier and with more room to spare than the other two hence meaning he couldve gone faster if the turbo didnt let go????

Hopefully this will answer a few questions:

Firstly JB's graph…

The other two graphs in a larger format…

You can see that the Cossie top speed runs were recorded from 60mph as that's the point that Euan and Dave were accelerating hard from, Andrew wasn't until a little later but in the software we used that was the only way to overlay and compare properly.
Blue is Andrew, red is Dave and green is Euan

On the RS Turbo graph…

Green is Ollie, Christian is blue and Tim is red

As you can see the axis show elapsed time so yes, Andrew's line finishes earlier because it took less time to get to that speed.

Hope that helps (This is Dave on Nick's machine btw)

I would suggest until 95 and the gear change at that point Euan still is not accelerating with full traction or throttle as the graph is not the right shape until that point. Same with andy up until 80/85ish. Cool graphs, good tool for people to see where they are improving and what different setups equate to as long as weather conditions are considered.

Good results from Oli.

It's just a shame I didn't get to record results on that second run as the first was only intended as a 'sighting' run and only turned into a 'top speed' run about halfway down when I realised it felt good. Nick said that it was definately better on paper. I did get to about 160mph, so would be interesting to see the overlay of the first run compared to the second. (Dave?)

I haven't bought the mag yet, will do tomorrow. Don't know many of my results, I imagine I didn't record sprint times on the one run. However, I was over the moon with 171.4mph and also heard that I did the 0-1 mile in 32 seconds and with a speed of 165mph, which is 3mph better than I did last year.

Can't wait to get back there and use the other spare RPM's that I have.

Great results everyone else, but of course I have only seen whats posted here. Will wait to see the mag.

Mmmm really can see anyone being able to beat his records and all this from a old as as you put it

I know for fact l wont get anywhere his times and dont think anyone else is
because no-one else can justify putting that amount of money/time/effort/stupidity in driving a sierra at over 200mph, into an old bean tin, for relatively little gain.

also good results by all ive seen on here, pf/ff is not out in any shops near round so i gotta wait till tomorrow shame about christians tho
gallacher car looks fookin mental with that snowplough on

Credit where its due!!! The RST results are nuts

Looking at the charts for the RS Turbo's from standstill to 60mph comes in around 7-8secs.

Then looking at the Cossie times from 60mph in comparison to the RST's allowing for the fact that the RST's took 7-8secs to get to 60, makes for some interesting results.

e.g 150mph.

The fastest of the RST's 21secs less 0-60(7secs) =60-150mph in 14secs

It was sliding round the corner there are some good vids around somewhere

trouble with geting the bost in so early is that even in 4th it was just bursting into wheels spin

Due to the uneven surface of Brunters it was hard to "feel" what the car was doing and balance the power, not that Im any kind of driver

The trace graphs are pretty cool, really shows up the weakness of 2wd in the wet as I wasnt really getting going til 4th gear andaround 90 mph.

Overall It was a good day but hope to go a touch faster next time
