Default New year, new car? £5-£6k, advice?

As title really. Hopefully I'll be changing cars before March, and I've drawn up a short list that I'd like some pros and cons offered up for:

S14a Turbo
Evo 4
Skyline R33 GTST
Mitsi GTO Twin Turbo
RX7

Personally, I was leaning towards the R33 at first, then the Evo, but now the S14a. Thinking that that will be the easiest car to live with and maintain from the list. And also it's a great looking car and shouldn;t be too difficult to make pretty fast

S14a Turbo - Nice cars, Wouldnt mind one myself tbh

Evo 4 - Dont know fuck all about them

Skyline R33 GTST - ditto

Mitsi GTO Twin Turbo - wank in my eyes, better of walking

RX7 - My mates got one for sale at the moment, 4k, and its nice. Good cars, just buy one with a rebuilt engine!

HTH, prob dont though

Best advice is drive them all and everything else in that budget, then decide. Everyone will have a different opinion, but it's down to YOUR opinion as you will have to live with it

For that budget, I would be tempted by the E36 M3

Why stay with an insurance company and limit choice? I remember being quoted 2k for an Mr2 Turbo, didn't stop me looking around, finding a cheaper option and buying one

I was with greenlight likewise, but they also dont insure 911 Turbos. Vote with your feet mate.

If they dont cover the car that you are buying, then they will return the balance of your money for the outstanding period left.

It is a cracking car, and you would not regret it! Love them

Diesel mentioned- sensible, but you wont actually have a very fast car, chipped or not.

300ZX mentioned- expensive to fix, pain to work on, bit dated looking, and not that great, bit like the GTO.

Personally id get the RX7 as its in a different league to most mentioned, but seeing as you dont have the best history with cars, id prob not get one, esp not for 5-6k.

Mitsi GTOs are shite.

Evo by far the easiest to drive really fast.

S14a by far the most sensible choice of what you mentioned, reliable, easy/cheap to fix, etc, esp for 5-6k it will get a mint one, wheras 5-6k will be lucky to get a mint RX7, Evo, etc etc etc.

Thanks

Mate of mine said today "DO NOT get a Skyline!!! Because you'll get a really bad one and it will cause you all sorts of problems knowing your luck!"

Do like the RX7 but I think that they are probably a fair bit more thirsty than the 200sx. I DO NOT want a diesel. Don't like the feel of them. I often get to drive a newish A3 diesel and whilst it's ok to borrow, I couldn't live with it!

Thanks for the advice folks. Hopefully I won't have problems with this car. I tend to employ common sense these days. Yes, me!

Not the best car if ignoring the sensible side of things, but overall the S14a will be the best.

And better than most the other options (R33GTST, 300ZX, GTO, etc) anyhow.

You could get a nice Audi S2 for that and have loads left over to insure it for about 2 years! 2.2 5 cylinders quattro almost 260lbs of torque and 154mph standard
Engines last for hundreds of thousands of miles! You see loads on Ebay with 160k+ some even 200k!
Do it squire!

S14a Turbo - Nice motors
Evo 4 - OK, but hard to find an un-abused one
Skyline R33 GTST -£££££ but nice enough
Mitsi GTO Twin Turbo Wank, stupid £ to fix and problems galore
RX7 - over 5'10" tall then you wont fit, heavy on gas heavy on maintainance.

200sx S14a best choice there by miles.

Halfway thru a policy, I want the NCB I'm due in May without starting again somewhere now. Nothing to say I can't change cars in 6 months and get an M3 then if I still want one.

Didn't mean the handling Rad, I meant the drive. I like to be able to rev an engine, plant my foot and let it go up through the range. In the diesel it suddenly hits you with some pace and then it's gear change time

Me no like

Would stick with what you have till May, then get the E36.

Crap time of year to get a new car anyway, be icey soon etc.

I have sat in a few and felt like I was in a sardine tin . I'm 6'4, and I was quite gutted really as I really like RX7's, but I have sat in at least 6 or 7 and always find my knees against the steering wheel, even with the seat adjusted right back/ down....

Just found out the S14a is only a 7.3 0-60. I want something closer to the 6 sec mark. is that gonna be easily attainable or would I be better looking at the RX7's?

Not wanting to be picky or put a downer on your plans Jay, but looking at your past record and your car criminality, you would be better off in a 1.1 fiesta with a rusty floor

I wouldnt go for any on your list pesonally.

With that money id go for a nice supra turbo. You could get a really nice one with that. Maybe even a UK model up on miles if you can wait a while. You could actually get a very well specced import for that money though anyway. MUCH better than any car on your list in my opinion.

Dont go for a GTO, there not all that quick and the price of some parts are ridiculous. Even sensors are a few hundred quid. My mate had one and spent a fortune on keeping it going.

Supra all the way.

I would absolutely love a Supra but from looking around I'd have to spend about 8k on one.

Gracie, how very dare you
