Would be a 200SX for me in some form for that money or an early M3, but realistically for Jay, I would suggest some form of public transport

you are trying to sell snow to an eskimo here If the guy wants a RWD car then why suggest FWD? I know you have a love affair with the ITR Alps but listen to what the guy wants

nice example can be had for your price range.

Whats wrong with that advice? it seems to suit you said you were looking for.
That's all spot on, but I took exception to the laying into me!

Look, maybe my expectations are somewhat naiive, but I'm just trying to investigate all the options before I lay out. I'm really quite nervous and worried about making a fuck up and getting the wrong car.

Hopefully people can understand that.

Sorry Rad, didn't mean to be ignorant pal. Some of my replies on here have been done on my phone, and quoting is awkward so sometimes I just reply to the odd post.

Been thinking on the last few days and was wondering which of the cars mentioned would be the easiest on my pocket to maintain???

I mean I would love a Supra and the Supra Owners Club guys say I could get a decent import TT for the money I'm talking but in all honesty I don't think I could afford to fix it if it went wrong. I can't imagine clutches, turbos etc being cheap to replace on them......

There's gonna be no point me test driving cars whose maintenance costs are well out of my range....

Cheers folks.

I know of a fucking awesome and stupidly cheap Supra TT, manual conversion, for sale, £5900 ono...

This car, tho got the graphics removed now.

exhaust, filter, strut braces, coilovers, 9x18 and 10x18s, CAT1, etc

mega cheap for what it is IMO

but considering you want economy, and considering its not the cheapest thing to fix, then i wouldnt if i was you.

if i was me tho, i would

So have you now decided that maybe a reliable economical fwd car might be a better option than a rwd turbo non economical car?

Cause if so i can highly recomend the dc2 integra type-r

Things are a bit better and set to get a lot better soon Chop

Stav, that's actually the colour I would want and everything.... I'd change the spoiler back to a standard item though. what's the mileage on that car? Are manual conversions just as good as factory manuals?

well hopefully things do get better. i know all too well what its like to want/need a cool/fast car and now im older i realise its neither big nor clever! fortunately for me im in a position now where i can afford to have my cossie sitting there doing nothing. it needs money spent on it but its only a toy so no rush

Cars like these are fun day to day but the costs are not!

A Supra?

Are you out of your mind? You have limited RWD experience, and a limited budget, and you want a TT Supra?

There's no helping you is there

S14a seems to fit the bill perfectly here IMHO, fairy easy to "learn" RWD in, not too bad on fuel/ running costs etc.... easy choice. Agree with Pon on the Supra, great cars but ££££ to sort out..

Different altogether, how about an early elise? N/A, rear drive, light so good on fuel Great cars

If you need the car to go to work in you should be going for quality not bhp..... by the sounds of it what you need is something more practical than a track/race car..... think you need to sort your head out before you end up crippling yourself with an unuseable motor.

I know what folk are saying and I see their point. I just want something exciting to drive. Cars really are my passion....

Rich, my rwd experience ain't that bad, I've had two rwd cars! i'm good enough to handle a Supra IMHO. It's my bank balance that's more likely to die

Actually if I was going to be sensible I'd go with an E36 328i Sport being totally honest.

I just long for my first genuinely fast car.... I'll be 26 soon. I don't wanna miss out on enjoying a nice car whilst I'm still relatively young.

In my opinion, to own any turbo'd performance car like these mentioned, supra, rx7, pulsars, even cossies, i think you need a couple of grand put to one side incase things go wrong, which lets face it, is very likely to happen at some point with these type of cars, unless you buy one thats had all the bits done to start with.

fuck it, i've been doing some more research and I might actually go for an E46 330 Coupe or a mk1 Audi S3. Both pretty solid, reliable cars, fairly quick and 30mpg

A 330i would be a good choice and im sure you could get an early saloon model for your budget. I think you might struggle to get a 330i coupe with £5k-£6k though mate.

Thanks Alps I'd take a chance on one with audi history tho. Plus there's remap potential.

I could probs stretch to near £7k for the right car I think.

How does an S14a stack up against a Stage 1 Saph? Decided I wanna spend closer to £5k after some careful thought, possibly 6 if need be but no more.

So I'm wondering if maybe I should consider a Saph afterall...... but they're old!!

Why oh why do I find decisions so hard

Haven't read the whole thread but for your pricerange what about an Astra Gsi Turbo?

for that cash you'll get a 53reg with fsh, around the 50k miles mark,

really well specced cars, comfy, lovely to drive, surprisingly quick, cheap to insure, and cheap servicing costs, and also with it being a vauxhall lots of tuning parts available,

I own one, and I like it for the above reasons, I had considered the quicker alternatives, such as Subaru's and Evo's but my mates own them and I see the running costs,

Just a susgestion

I cant see why people are so obsessed with rwd to be honest. Ok maybe its good fun if your going to use it on track alot, but for an everyday road car, its just not necessary in my opinion.

Rad, I'd be more than happy with a nice 4wd

If I did go and get a Saph I'd want a 4x4 to be honest.
