The Low Emission Zone (LEZ) will affect older, diesel-engined lorries, buses, coaches, minibuses and large vans (exceeding 1.205 tonnes unladen weight).

It will also affect other specialist vehicles that are derived from lorries and vans, including motorised horse boxes, breakdown and recovery vehicles, refuse collection vehicles, gritters, sweepers, concrete mixers, tippers, removals lorries, fire appliances, motor caravans, ambulances and large hearses (over 2.5 tonnes).

There will be a phased introduction of the LEZ from 4 February 2008 through to January 2012. Different vehicles will be affected over time and increasingly tougher emissions standards will apply.

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/vehicles/2535.aspx

For UK registered vehicles: if the vehicle was manufactured on or after the 1st of October 2006, no further action is required. If the vehicle was manufactured before the 1st of October 2006 then it may be affected by the Low Emission Zone (LEZ).

Thats only within the zone tho , the M25 and any other major arteries which "touch " that zone are NOT affected by this change , i checked this the other day when i bought a truck !

How long will it be before the government charge us for the amount of farts we do? Methane measuring equipment will be set up in our homes or directly to our arseholes and we will be charged per fart or on a volume basis!

On a serious note, this thieving, incompetent, shambles of a goverment is gradually running out of ideas in which to fleece the motorist/van or truck driver. So ideas like the M25 one above are just going to get more widespread.

And current and future transport policy doesnt affect Government Ministers, as they all have limousines to ferry them to their destination, and the majority don't have a drivng licence anyway! And MP's earn os much from their jobs and from outside interests they can afford to pay anyway!

We have to be the most "anti-motor vehicle" country on earth! How long will it be before modified cars are outlawed? Or all vehicles must be less than 5 years old? Don't discount anything with these twats!

Daily charges
£200 for lorries, buses, and coaches and vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. This charge will apply from 4 February 2008
£100 for minibuses below 5 tonnes and large vans, motor caravans, ambulances and similar vehicles below 3.5 tonnes. This charge will apply from October 2010

Yeah I've been seeing signs on the M11 when I come to work, saying it's effective from the end of the M11 when it turns into the A406 London Nth Circ.... By the looks of the map it's everything inside the Nth Circ and the South Circ...

This is exactly what I have been doing. Register the vehicle in a moody name and address (a mailbox is a good one) drive where you like, park where you like and don't pay the congestion charge!!! Easy.
We have to start fighting back. I pay enough tax as it is.
So everybody will now be selling their older diesel vehicles and buying petrol ones LMAO. What a con.
And to top it all off where is the money going?

you do have to change over quickly though mate as aftyer a few months it could be flagged up on anpr systems even though you could say "ust bought it yesterday mate"

to be honest i never register anything its normally allways a moody name the wifes car is in her name. to be honest last time i got a ticket was a couple years ago and i last time flashed by a camer a couple years ago so im not intentially going out to get fines, but its that what if thing and the system fucks you so why not fuvk it back

i pay a fortune to tax the vans a fortune to runa nd insure them, a fortune on tax on the income so bollox are they having any more food off my childrens plates sometimes i feel id be better off sat on my ass claiming jobseekers

Exactly Lardy. It's the what if it happens scenario.
If you get a parking ticket you don't have to worry and panic like everybody else and saying that I did get a ticket the other week. I was 1 minute and 20 seconds over on a ticket I had purchased in a car park. The warden stuck the ticket to the windscreen, so I stuck it on him. He was a bit stunned.
And the excuse I have just bought it does work. There is always a way of getting out of something.
It will become the case whereby we physically will not earn enough to pay all the bills coming in.

i live in croydon and drive a 99 sprinter so im affected by it, it will cost me £25 PER DAY to drive my sprinter to work or even to the end of the road, so im gunna sell it and buy a newer one,
its bolox i could do without having to spend the money but it is a good excuse to make me buy one. 2010 is when the restriction comes in for smaller vans like mine

buy a new truck
park it up
put the plates on a whole fleet of the older trucks
you still get the fines and parking tickets, but you have effectivly increased your fleet by loads

perfect until you have an accident

I could quite well believe that

It'll soon get to the stage where all our wages will go to the Government and we'll all get a weekly living allowance!
