Garage19, I'm running a .82 exh housing.

Chip, I wondered if you would silence the screamer seperate, or flow into the exhaust.

Just thought afterwards, my civic turbo runs an external 38mm (overkill) but the gate positioning is very poor, this still holds boost perfectly, but obviously its a smaller engine (1.6) and much lower powered.

I'm running Arais pistons as well, what piston to bore clearance did you go for, and what piston speeds do you think you will see when its built?

86mm stroke, I wont be able to rev it past 8500rpm unless I drysump it which im not intending at the moment.

Ive gone for a 4.5 thou piston to bore clearance, on an 86.75mm bore.

Thats a little higher than is typical, but I want it not to seize up if I squirt a little bit of gas into it now and then

Exhaust has now moved, and ive cut a hole in the boot for it to come out, so the boot shuts now, although it needs some serious tidying up as its just a dirty great angle ground square hole its coming out currently!

I'll sort it, just got more important things to do first, like putting pinch bolts in the bottom ball joints for example

I was genuinely surprised at how quiet mine is, no slap at all, but obviously its not even run in yet so will get looser when the bores scrub themselves flat on the rings.

Not bothered at all by how it sounds when cold though obviously on this sort of car, its just all about stopping it blow up!

Same with me really, but the side loading doesn't help with mine been a stroker. I was just wondering weather it was the piston's that are pretty noisy anyway.

Head is a pretty large spec, although the valves themselves are only 1mm oversized, which is still 1mm smaller than cossie ones.

Its got a very good port job on it though, and im not expecting it to surge like on a YB as its a better shape to begin with anyway IMHO

Im also NOT after massive midrange torque anyway (due to traction) and thats when you tend to get surge, when you have huge boost at medium rpm.

Head was done by Neil Roper developments (Neil is Ex Hart formula 1 and a bit of a legend with RS200 heads as he did the works cars, so good background to come from)

Argh ok cool, so if it does surge your'll jus cap it till the engine speed builds enough to cope ?

Traction is a problem for me too but thats what I seem to like the most, the car lighting up the tyres in the 1st 3 gears wet or dry & no clutch tricks

So midrange torque is important to me !

So are you gonna run 2 silenced exhausts, one for screamer & the other for engine or link em both together ? ? ?

Yes if it happens, but Im pretty confident it wont anyway.

LOL, mine is a bit too unpredictable when sideways for me to want to be doing it in 3rd.

Into the 1 exhaust just before the silencer.

for track days im going to run an extra silencer on the outside of the car across the boot.

They will be linked together before the first silencer box. A second silencer box is being made into an external slip on component so that it can be fitted at trackdays where noise is an issue.

Is this the mad spec engine that was due to go in your old mini some time ago?

Also can I ask what is your cooling set up for the engine? Rad mounted at front i am assuming? Trying to sort mine out next few days. Is yours just standard i.e. Longer pipes and thats it? Just wondering if there will be any issues going from front to back in terms of the water pump, or extra capacity or air locks? cheers

Standard water pump works fine, tried and tested on 2 previous engines in there, and on this one its under less strain as the turbo is on a seperate circuit anyway with an electric pump.

And yes, its the engine I was going to put in my mini, but Ive decided to stick to about 250bhp for that.

Yeah, im not worried about that one being particularly quick in a straight line, im building it for the corners not the straights mainly anyway (well as much as is possible given the contraint of being front engined)

Turbo mate, the old engine from my nova in fact, I decided to swap them over essentially (although obvously the mini was never going to get the inlet or exhaust manifolds i have on this engine now!).
