Default T38 or T4

Hope to get my car back for running in soon before the car came off the road a year ago i had just fitted a UT T38 , im planning on running in the car with this fitted but for a road car with some 1/4 use what would be best T38 or T4 ?
Im thinking of mibi going for one of the new roller T4's but is it money for nuthing, whats the most power to be had from a T38 ?

Neil just ask yourself this, do you want to be associated with those two sluts, namely Euan and Colin and their T4's ?????????

Life doesn't have to be like that...................

Pete Neville's old setup on a UT T38 made 450bhp.

No idea what power mine made when on its UT T38, but it used to compete very nicely against a friends 440bhp 3dr on a GT30.

then Dave Moss's on a TT T38 made 466bhp.

i used to love the way mine used to drive and the characteristic's of the engine suited my driving style perfectly.

i know that doesnt compare against a T4, but gives my view, id gladly go back to what i had before if i had to

Realy need to get out in Euans car at some point to see what this new T4 is like , i know the rest of the car spec is more than up to it. Just dont want to get it mapped then wish i had of went for the T4. So looking at 450 on the T38 and 500+ on a T4.

Yip mine has arrow rods, big valve head with ferrera valves, titainium retainers and mountune wrc spec block But wont have a custom exhauset or airbox , will either run an adaptor to standard box or sheilded cone filter if i go T4 with 100mm inlet.

David think mountune still do them but your looking at about 2K + or nearer 4 for the full linered version. I got mine from Dumped after he scrapped the twin turbo project along with the fancy spec head.

He mentioned how well it pulled from low down without losing much or anything higher up but that was all he really said.

fair play though as it was his engine that CR used to test the product out on.

aye mate was god cheers, think i know the esco you mean

i was thinking of puting the old sierra on knockhill 2008,car goes well in a straight line in the dry

neil this new roller job sounds peak aswell, once ive got the new head, injectors and big manifold on,im thinking of maybe this route too,but to be honest my turbo performs great as is and its only done1500miles from turbo technics recon

il have to get out in euans to see what diffrence it is,as i know he holds it in right high regaurd compared to our old ones

at your spec mate id be getting the bigger turbo, yours is going to be the baws

Im going through on the 7th when ava re opens to find out what the hell is hapning with my car, so will talk to alan about it then just need to sort my bill so far then go from there. I already have the inlet, large tb,big injectors and mappable ecu so will just be a turbo swap and should see around 400 atw i think.

Hmmmm. I have the UT T38 as well, Not actually run it yet as my engine is just goin back in, I am just worried by the fact that they don't make a vast amount of midrange torque, but a T4 lag is very offputting to me, love to see how a T4 to Euans spec would run on a set of less wild cams etc, I have a saff with a T4 and to be honest it's not very nice to drive at all ...

Have you considered a GT30 with an External gate? Doug Stirling raves about his

Dont realy fancy the hassel of going external gate the T4 is just straight bolt on. From what i have heard the UT T38 is a realy good turbo no big boost spike but then it is better on transmission and smoother to drive.
I think the new T4 will work best with big cams and good head work or mibi have surge problems, im running the same spec cams as euan so no problems either way.

can't remeber what cams Euans running? I have the Bara box and a thickwall front diff already, so no worries on the transmission side of things .... Got a mild ported head, 25/26mm so nothing too drastic .. Will see how the T38 goes and go from there Sounds like we will need a grudge match Neil, cars sound very similar specs

I don't know if this is much use but headwork made a MONUMENTAL difference on mine and it was only a de-shroud of the inlets, same size though, best Ł275 I ever spent, no more power but the torque is unbeleivable now.
It holds peak boost 330lbft from 2200-6500rpm.
It is a T34, but 150lbft at 1500rpm.

i have heard peaple say that the old t4 is better on transmission due to the power+torque being made higher up the rev range and gear speed.

although kevs escort seemed to strip third gear no problem on a t4 this was after a topspeed run with a ferrari trying to pass us

As said above, Universal Turbos or CR Turbos T38 gives good power (450 BHP), with a
torque figure that is "OK" in that it's unlikely to break the standard transmission.......

When the engine was getting fitted i got a new Proalloy 60mm cooler with 3" pipework and a custom inlet/tb fitted just incase, i decided to move up from the T38 as my old set up of Pace 500 cooler and spacered 4x4 inlet would of been fine with that.

Get the car up and running and max out the turbo you have, then have a drive in mine and see what you think.

we can also compare any data from both cars taken on the rollers etc.

A turbo swap and a few hours on the rollers to tweak the map isnt a big job so could be done at a later date
