halfords & clark are a good place to start once you have a good set of tools you can just replace broken ones with better ones

 

dont wanna buy shite though id rather pay more and buy once than buying cheap over and over again.

Halfords pro are not shite And they have a lifetime warranty ... If you break one ( and you have got to try very very hard) it gets replaced for free

 

only thing to watch from halfords are the braker bars

if you use them hard from ice cold they shatter & after 5 or 6 replacements they try to fob you off

 

i wasnt saying halfords are shite! wot im saying is id rather pay more for decent stuff than buy shite thats gonna break and have to buy again hence im asking for advice, i know that tools break and cant be helped but some ahite tools will break sooner than stronger ones

 

don't know much about the halfords gear but facom is mid range and has a lifetime warranty.to be honest you'd do better on ebay buying 2nd hand snap on i got a set soemx flank drive for Ł100 as new no marks or damage, new Ł286 so a good saving a general sevice set 3/8 drive blue point is about Ł130 and offers a decent set for the new starter, if you don,t need them instantly look at this as an option buy the best you can aford not just a bulk set thats got lots of shite in to make it look like a good deal. decent tools will save you in the long run as a rounded nut with a cheep socket or spanner can cause untold grief and heart ache and hindsight is there to kick your ass when that loose fitting spanner do's it's best to spoil your day

 

i got a mate who's a fitter on the buses, he has the ol snap on van come round, got him to set me up an account, had shitloads of stuff just pay Ł20 a week...

obviously u need to know someone who has a snap on van come round!!

 

i heard snap on had a special on with a 3/8 socket set with torx bits etc for Ł100?

 

sounds cheep on the 3/8 set i paid Ł345 for 1/4 drive deep and std to 15 mm + flexi head and fixed head with torx

 

my mate who works for volkswagen mentioned it, he said he paid soething like Ł130 before just for the torx set

 

no shit will be looking into this sounds well cheep, plenty of blue point knocking around for that money though ebays full of it at the mo

Hi ive got mostly snap on and mac ,facom in my boxes but i did buy some swivel head ratcheting spanners a set for 40 quid which are good quality .
If you starting to build a set i would start with a blue point socket set get them on ebay around 120 and fill the box up with some like pro range deep sockets such as halfords or clarke but be aware if u use this gear everyday it will weaken and mess up ......neil.......

 

i normally just go with draper expert as its served me well, but after just looking on ebay i mite start looking at getting some snap on gear

 

im sure thats the one snap on is selling for 100 quid

 

is that just off the guys in the van? will have to get my old man to ask him next time he sees him.
the snap on website doesnt seem to sell any of the blue point stuff

 

ya the guy off the van,, im sure you can only buy it if your an apprentice or something someone was telling me

most of folk i know with the blue point stuff has brought it back from america.but tbh some of the stuff seems shit hot aswell

 

halfords don't warrantyT40 torx bits

but they did exchange me an extrnsion bar with a T55 bit stuck onto the end of it
i put the torx bit into the bolt head, tapped it down, then put the extension in afterwards and then the breaker bar
the bolt came out as good as new, but the little popper in the extension bar broke off and it wouldn't come off the end

i strolled into halfords and asked the if they could fix it and they said "half a new one on us sir"

 

I mostly buy facom.

their ratchet set is ace. The sockets actually fit the bolts and never slips off or damages the edges.

Same for their normal spanners.

Their screwdrivers aren't the best though, but i guess that's because nobody uses screwdrivers how they are ment to be used. (my last set i'm taking care using philips when needed etc and they seem to last a lot longer )

 

so were do i get facom from the, do you guys just buy off the net.? i also dont have access to a dealer van..

 

I buy all Draper Expert and i have a few Halfords Pro items but my best mate gets me fantastic deals on Draper stuff that can not be beat.

I am trying to build up a decent kit, but unfortunately now am at the expensive stuff
