...pointless running fully synthetic oil on a cossie if you change the oil frequently..the whole point of say mobil 1 is its life,can last upto 20k miles before it needs changing..saying this i didnt practise what i preach as i changed every 2k on mobil one...ouch to the wallet

What about the heat from the turbo?
From what I understand, I would never use semi in a turbo'd car, the heat kills it in no time.
Even fully I change at 3000 on a turbo'd car, serious heat to contend with.

Mineral oil on a road car - thought that wasn't advised due to the catalyst?

Have you guys considered why you run highrt revs to run a cam in?

Its because you reduce the load on the lobe (surface area vs contact time) and increase oil supply.


Also I love the why synthetic oil is some magical oil, its only the way made not exculsivly what it does.

A1 rallysport advised me to run in on halfords mineral oil for 500 miles change the oil to a decent fully syn and then drive it how you like!

I dont think running in is rocket science, beddin in cams etc is essential but as long as not too much load is applied whilst running in you should be alright.

Another good tip is to allow over-run where you come off throttle and let the car drive the engine. Which beds in the piston rings the other way.

Followed the above points with a rebuilt cossie lump and had not 1 prob!

So what oil to run in the BMW?

I have been using what bmw suggest, they wnt stick in any other oil? being modern and a new breed of twin turbo units, last thing i want is to stick the wrong oil in her.
