Deffo think 9s are achievable Both martin and kev are in the tens with all round Track/drag cars i think if they got serious about dragging and set the cars up just for this then theyd be doing 9s

no its more a case of beeing to strong at a certain point, with an adjustable centerfugal clutch system it would be posibble to launch on full boost at peak torque but slip the initial hit from engine to trans and then onto tyres this meaning no wheelspin OR bogging with the correct weight on the clutch, as the RPM raises so does the pressure on the clutch plates

it amazes me its one thing to build a car from scratch its a whole nother art getting the right bits and the perfect setup
this is why there's companies that specialize in certain motorsport, we do cars for all kind of competition but drag racing is our number one which is how we've built record breaking cars, it also why it makes sense for people to come to specialist people to get the best from there cars.

I've been a top fuel clutch man and it's fooking hot not cool By looking at a top fuel clutch you can see the basics but then you have to remember that there's an air opperated 'Cannon' that pushes on the clutch plates at selected times during the run to set the desierd pressure on the clutch plates(all 5) then you also have your assistants from the rotation speed that loads the weight onto the plates aswell.
There are clutches available that with a little machining work could be used with a cosworth set up no problem.
Kev H its very hard to comprimise on set ups but my car was great fun on the back roads even with a live axle in, I've learnt alot this year on getting the best from a 4x4 set up and I feel that you wouldn't need to go to far from a track set up although peopl need to forget running these track slicks for drag racing as they dont work, 4x Nitto's for you 4wd guys

And as far as us not being bothered about weight. You wanna see what I have chopped off my car. I basically lay under it with an angle grinder and just chopped stuff off.
I have no front end panels, everything will be kevlar. I have taken 20kg out of each door alone, but still retained the electric windows (can't be winding shit up and down at my age)
Chopped the roof off and put on a non sunroof panel, that saves another 20kg
New rear beam with Broms super cool tubular arms and they are a stack lighter than standard.
The problem I see is it's too easy to loose weight from the back and you end up with a car that is out of balance. My car is being built for the track, but I think it should be a fair qtr mile contender!!
Just need the haggis muncher to teach me how to launch!!
Yeah Danny, whats the deal with clutches??

APMSL at these comments
but seriously how do u take 20kg out of each door drilling holes ?? and what did you cut off from underneath would that not loose strength ?? but then i guess u get strenght back from seam welding and rollcage etc

You wanna try lifting an Esc Cos door. They weigh an absolute tonne!!! I have basically chopped out all of the inside, including the side impact protection bar, just leaving a cross over where the window motor mounts onto. Plus I have removed the rest of the wireing from inside the door, so no central locking or electric mirroe wireing. Stuff like that.
Underneath you would be suprised what is there that you don't need, brackets and captive nuts for all sorts, I have taken all of those off, the original bump stop towers have gone, petrol tank mounts etc etc etc.
My cage is simply there to stiffen the shell I didn't go for any more bars than were necessary for that. Yes as a biproduct I get safety, but not to the level of say Porkie or Martin's cages. My shell isn't seem welded either apart from in critical areas again due to weight.
My problems are heavy diffs, a heavy gearbox, heavy brakes and stuff like that.
I have also kept the heater as we live in England and it's fooookin cold, incase anyone hadn't noticed!!
Sean..
