Default my engine problem lol

well some of you mite know a couple of weeks ago i took my saff to AVA to get set up as i had rebuilt the engine etc. all was well untill the last run on rollers the suddenly lost power and car cut out

Got the car started about 20mins later when cooled down but engine was knocking like fook again but as i was 220 mile from home i had to drive it got me home ok ish lol. So today i decided to strip the engine down to have a look and found this

so it looks like my problem is a melted piston first time ive melted a piston on a cossie in 10 year

surely its impossible to tell what the original failure is if you drove it 220 miles until it seized?

there is no way that det was missed while on the rollers...

Doesn't really look like det has caused that (although det has been present for a breif period). It looks more like the engine was over heating and the piston has nipped up in the bore before freeing itself off as it cooled down (hence the 20 minute delay before it would start again).

It could be that the det has been mild enough for it just to heat the piston up enough for it to expand and grip in the bore.

When a car is on the rollers at AVA there is always a head under the bonnet and a probe up the exhaust.

There is no way lean running or det could have been missed.

the scored oil pump could have been giving low oil press and caused what DazC said.

Annoying thing was sarah is in the AA but as she wasnt in the car they wouldnt come out

only cost Ł60 in fuel, to join the AA you have to wait 24hrs before you can use it

why not use someone elses AA card ?

tbh if you got in contact with anyone on here they would have gave the details to you,,, i know i would of as since i bought the BMW ive called them out once in 18 months

id say its what DazC says,,,, not just cause hes one of the smartest people on this forum who keeps quiet about it,,, but because oil also cools the engine and cossies doing top speed runs with normal sumps have been known to help them melt on motorways ect racing bikes ect

she could have added you to the AA policy and paied a premium based on being her car blah blah and she forgot to add her other half on the policy if that makes sence

but thats pointless now as the cars in bits
