Default Quick Question, Alpine Amp

I've just bought one 2nd hand. I'm new to all this sort of stuff. It's an mrv-t505, I can't get it to work at the moment, thinking its down to the headunit settings rather than my wiring/the amp.

There is a little power light on it that stays on, even when the ignition/radio is off. Is this what Alpine amps do or should the power light only come on when I turn the stereo on? I've connected the RCA cable from my cd player to the amp correctly.

Worried i'll end up with a flat battery in the morning.

looks like he has connected it to the permanent live instead of a switched live like the remote wire from the head unit.

the light should NOT be on all the time.

I've pulled the fuse on it for now. I'm pretty sure i connected it to the remote line, will double check tomorrow.

I can't work out why the amp is not working. How would you tell if an amp is shagged?
