Default Repeated cambelt failure - Vauxhall C20NE

Guys,

Just been towed home tonight after my daily smoker breaking down

Anyway, it turns out the cambelts broken (well not actually broken but has slipped, the teeth have been worn away). Now I had EXACTLY the same thing happen in August and fitted a new belt.

Looking back through old paperwork the car has had two belts in 4k miles

What can be causing this ? first belt I can't comment of standard of installation but second was donr by a very trusted mechanic............ can't see what would cause two to fail so quickly ?

Only thing I thought of was maybe an incorrect cam/ crank pulley has been installed ?

At least there's no engine damage as they are a non interference design

Cracking engines these.
Only seen this happen once, on a 1.2 Nova, took about ten teeth off, didn't do it again.
All I can think of is not enough tension, and it slipped taking teeth with it.
Are you saying all teeth are worn down, or just a section where it's slipped?

Not sure about how many teeth are gone as haven't got it off yet.............. however the last time it happended the belt was in a mess all the way round

This most recent belt was fitted using the proper tensioning tool as well

i was gonna suggest it being a wrong size tensioner or a bad batch of belts, did you get them from the same place mate??

i had the same problem on a xe engine so might be relevant for this, the belt kept sounding like it was coming loose and on inspection i found alot of teeth missing, it happened twice so i dealt into it more the second time and found someone had fitted the wrong water pump (square toothed type) and the pulleys and belt where round tooth, may be worth a look.

Spot on m8, just what i've been thinking................. as it had a new water pump last year before i bought it therefore feel this can be the only cause

sure the water pump is not the problem. some have round teeth and some square, very easy mistake to fit the wrong pump
