Default PS3 Blu-rays on ordinary player?

I've been looking on ebay, and there are some PS3 format Blu-rays. Will they play on an ordinary blu-ray player? PC one in particular if that makes any difference...

Cheers,

That's what I thought, but they've actually got PS3 written on them

That always used to crack me up even back in the PS2 days when they got the ability to play DVD's - you use to see DVD's with "PS2 compatible" wirtten on them and people got all confused and thought it was a special version for the PS2 and wouldn't play on normal players

Yeah Blu-Ray is Blu-Ray, it'll play in all Blu-Ray players, Blu-Ray PC drives, PS3's etc.....

Yeah but thats them promoting the PS3 as surprisingly not that many people realise it's also a BDP! So you put "PS3 BLU-RAY DISC" on it, and the people who own PS3's see it think "ooh, I'll buy that, it's a movie to play on my PS3"

Then after a short while they put up stupid threads on a forum about it

Thing is I nearly didn't buy it thinking it wouldn't work, so the marketing got that a bit wrong...

Yes. As far as I know, there is only one combi player, the LG BH-100 but it's stupidly expensive, and not sure if you can officially get it in the UK yet... I think there is be a combi drive for PC's, but thats about £650 or something daft like that....

Yes that's correct Steve.

All to do with certain movie studios selecting certain formats. Hence a nice war

Hold tight though as LG are releasing a Blue-Ray AND HD-DVD player all in one and it won't be (As Matt has said) a fuckin stupid price!

So does Blu-Ray play on a HD DVD player (such as the 360 upgrade etc).........

Or is it Sony trying to corner a market again

Yeah thats where I am also. I'm not getting into the whole HD thing untill it all settles down and one is the clear victor. I don't fancy spending £500 on a decent player only to find a year or so later that it's gone the otherway

Plus I don't have a HD TV anyway, as I'm really not that fussed about it. Standard def DVD's look wicked on my TV, and SD-DVD's look better on SD-TV's than D-DVD's do on HDTV's

Cheapest way to get HD-DVD in your house right now, is if you have a PC hooked up to your TV. You can buy the 360 HD-DVD drive, and plug it in via USB to the Pv and voila - HD-DVD on your TV

Toshiba HD-E1 will cost you at LEAST £180-£190, with most being around £200 to £220

HD-DVD drive add-on for the 360 is £99.99 from amazon
