nope, its owned by its SISTER COMPANY ford retail uk

i know as i worked there, the parts department are also about to be owed different to the showrooms,,, so ford parts will be different, ford retail, FoMoCo,, all different business,, on and the design part is also different too

the only way he can keep any id re-shelling a car is that the donner shell has to be brand new (not second hand shell )

if you reshell a car with a second hand shell it will automatically go on a Q plate no matter what it says on the log book

Even with a new shell you don't keep the original ID - you should still get a new DVLA issued VIN number.

Hi Iain

My mate has just had his bmw m3 2006 re-shelled with a brand new shell he has got the same registration that came with the car thats through the insurance company

that will get the same id number and reg

another mate of mine a good few years ago had a sierra XR4x4 on a E plate

he bought a brand new escort cosworth trimed shell and put everything off the sierra on to the escort DVLA still let him put the E plate on the escort

and it says ford escort 3 door xr4x4 on the log book

marco speaks truth,, though the reshelled xr4x4 is done by accident and should not have been done

I must have missed this comment, He's not really re shelling it though he built the car up from a basic 3 door escort popular / bonus all fully running when he got it with its own id but obviously now he's turbo'd it he wants to put rs turbo id onto it which is wrong as its not an rs turbo,

Its like buying a 3 door sierra gl and building it up and putting it on rs 500 id people do it but its still ringing in the eyes of the law isn't it???

Which imo is THE main problem, Why buy something if its illegal to use it??? It should be illegal to sell it in the first place then there wouldn't be such an issue,

Traders don't help things either when they sell shells without id they know whats going to happen to them, AND NO i'm not digging at traders on here but this does happen,

Theresa company in fast ford mag that sells scrap shells with id mmm wonder why

Collectors may argue that reason.
Not that I have any id's from cars, but some people may be interested in them for that reason only.

But why would you want to collect id's??? Cars yes but i can't understand why anyone would want to collect id's other than to use them for ringing

Depends what car it's from. May be something old and rare (as the RS's are getting) and want a piece before they dissappear.. don't forget - there's some proper proper geeks out there that will collect ANYTHING. Car identity is quite normal compared to some collectable things.

i bough a series one that had half the floor number welded over possible reshell????? as the hpi gave it as not reported stolen but wrote of in 1992 the hpi and logbook matched the numbers on the vin plate under the bonnet thats not original as it is stamped from the top it also matched the engine number at the time and markings on glass it was still on the proper plate no a q and it had the chassis number stamped on both strut tops with another 4 didgit number underneath which the lad that rebuit my front end says is the badge number of the officer that checked the car plus there should be anoter mark somewhere hidden on the car under the head lining for arguments sake that says the car has been cheaked
