Red16 - thats the sort of thing (I too googled it, but wanted to see actual ones in actual peeps homes kinda thing) but my rad is half that size.....
brs - well I thought that, but I have two rads in my living room - one I want to put a cover on (it's on the exposed wall beneath the window and just looks a bit gash lol) and the other is behind the sofa's so you want really see it, so I think I'd still get good enough heat (I hope anyway )

Rad covers are the biggest waste of time in the winter.
Radiators do not actually radiate very much heat at all, they are actualy convectors and by covering the top of them with anything you are practically defeating the purpose of them.
Anyone that had rads covers..........take them off and see how much hotter the house gets..

I was thinking of instead of solid wood at the top, cutting out the centre and putting a grille there, so hot air can still rise out the top. Gaps at the bottom to let air in (circulation) and grilles on the front (let the heat escape)
It's just it looks fucking rubbish like it does in my pic

Thanks
It's just when you walk into that room, thats the opposite wall so thats the first thing you see, even from the front door straight through you see that radiator, and I personally think it looks gash...
A nice subtle radiator cover, preferrably in beech or similar finish to match the speakers, av unit etc, I think would "tone it down" somewhat, and help it blend in, other than it just looking like, well, a radiator hanging off a wall.....

Thats 1500 x 900 and was the biggest I could find at the time. I dont think it would be high enough for you though. And it was Ł50.
Edit to add: It still wasnt big enough and i thought it looked crap so i went for a brushed stainless rad in its place

christ almighty its a radiator in a house...hardly out of the ordinary eh!!
stupid idea to cover it with a large box then pay more on bills as the room gets colder.
if you have to do something then why not paint it the same colour as the wall?
or buy camouflage paint

It is as hot as before. I had room thermometers to check because I had loads of folk telling me it would be colder. The only thing might be that it uses more gas to keep the heat the same. They are more vent than they are wood and if you stand in front of it you can feel the heat coming out.
If anything the heat is better distributed round the room as it comes out the front instead of the top

1) It IS the same colour as the wall, just don't look it in the pic (I did already say that, but peeps don't read
2) I ain't removing it as I quite like not shivvering
3) I ain't changing it either. Stainless/chrome/designer rad would look stupid in there as I haven't got any other stainless/chrome/designer stuff...
4) I ain't moving the TV, it took me ages to get everythingin a position so I could get the best possible soundstage for music and surround sound film playback, I certainly ain't putting the TV in the corner Not to mention the bench it sits on is 1.5m wide - think it might stickout into the room a bit?
5) Don't want curtains for the window, hence why there is a blind there. Covering the window and rad with curtains is not only a stupid idea (material draped over a hot radiator ) but all I will see then is curtains across the whole wall
Might aswell just leave it as is I guess.....
