Default Central heating experts help needed

Three of the radiators in my house are stone cold the others are roasting,i've tried to bleed them but no air comes out only water.
If i bleed off about a pint of water the radiator starts to heat up at the bottom but once i stop bleeding the water it goes cold again, any tips please ??

turn the radiators off which are heating up that should push the heat to the cold rads, also sounds like the system needs balancing

balancing means to balance the flow to each radiator.

what you need to do is take the cover off the loack shield valve (the oposite valve to the one you can turn) and screw in the valve on each of the radiators which heat up quickly.

Have the non heating up rads have thermostatic rad valves (trv) fitted?, if yes then try to unscrew the trv head only, and push the little pin which is now exposed on the trv body in and out GENTLY, wait a couple of seconds and the pipe leading to the rads may start to heat up. The trv may be stuck and might need some gentle encouragement with a hammer to the the body of the trv to free it!

If not, the system may need balancing?

black water usually means blockages or the start of problems.

this can be cured by adding chemicals to the system but its not really a job for a DIY'er no disrespect mate.

Best thing to do in short term is let the boiler pump to each of the prob rads only(all others closed) for ten mins to try and clear any partial blockages then open all the rads and report back

Unlikely that 3 TRVS have jammed at the exact same time...

We need to know what kind of rad valves before I can say how to take them off.

Take a pic?

Systems dont tend to just need balenced after years of working perfectly unless there is somekind of restriction forming..

If the water is that black and sludgie out of the system, just adding a chemical into the system is a waste of time and effort, you'd be better off getting someone in to power flush the boiler and system!

How does the plastic head come off ?
Just below the plastic trv head is normaly a chrome lock nut type thing, use some adjustable grips to undo.

Well done, you should be warm and toasty now!

Theres no need to lube them because they stick internally, turn them up and down now again, or give them a good whack if they stick again! LOL
