That scratch took a lot of time and flatting to get rid of, yet was something silly like 0.2 of a micron to achieve it.
Could have used t-cut or similar for a week by hand and not touched it.
Been painting bmws for a good while now and since they changed there clear coat they can be a pain to work on. Light scratches, swirls etc take a lot more work to polish out. After any machine compounding to a panel i use a glazing pad and a product called ultrafina by 3M and 99% of the time it gets rid of any traces of swirls and light scratches

When the clearcoat goes from solvent based to water you'll all be fucked anyway!

Clearcoat will always be solvent based coz if was waterbased then it would wash off mate!!! Its only the base coat thats goin waterbased.

In my opinion that best way to flat & polish clearcoat - Flat with 2000 wet & dry, use mop with 3m greentop compound and finish off 3m finnese-it then wax by hand.

And also its not all German cars that are difficult to polish as I worked for Audi for 10 years. It's only on Merc's with scratch resistant clearcoat - which is rock hard!!

Tom - VAG and bmw cars have hard paint (lacquer), hence using different methods to correct defects
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/ sponsor E36coupe, often moan when they've a bmw in for correction due to how hard the paint is, more time and effort to correct

I know myself from spending an hour by hand on my spoiler with ssr3 and not touching it how hard it is

Well yeah, need a PTG for starters for about £500, nevermind one for plastics at several times that price

Pay someone £150-200 and get it done safely and properly

What kind of bodyshop is this?
Seems quite common that the paint won't be in a great state after your usual bodyshop has worked on it, plenty of defects under the halogens that shouldn't be there, buffer trails etc. Just don't seem to be finished too well.
Same with new cars though, some shocking sights to be seen there.
