TBH ive never blown a RST box , my current engine is an exception as i have got a bernie box , ( dont expect the standard one to take 300+ )
Have had standard to 220BHP RST's and never had a prob with the box .

ive went through 3 std boxes in 3 months with 200 bhp imo its down to the age/condition/treatment of the box, ive had a stg1 bernie box for 7 months now, they cost 550 quid in vat and ur old box in exchange given it loads of abuse and its been fine

I went through 2 gearboxes in 3 months.
Thought fook it and now am raping a Stg 2 Bernie Box - I am all praise for this box, the diff really performs well and lots of traction these days, have just persuaded a mate to get the same, hes saving for it now, £800+vat or thereabouts!
Im running over 200bhp, proven, 5 months of moderate ragging and not a squeak out of it yet.

Berniesboxes
ok so I read Berniesboxes are the way to go. I have checked the website and this seems to be the diffrence between these stages:
> Stage 1 uses uprated Ford viscous limited slip diff £450.00
> Stage 2 uses Quaife ATB limited slip diff £800.00
At what BHP- / Torque-level is it neccesary to go for Stage 2 ?
350 pounds is a lot of money to simple choose Stage 2....

PassionFord Post Whore!!
std gearbox-
I destroyed 1 at 170 bhp in 15k miles
The one in my car now has lasted about 80 at 220+
I say that cuz it did 400 mile on 220 and then as it was mapped today up to 340bhp it shat its pants.
Bernie will be getting a call.

Unfortunatly the old choclate box will give up at anytime. Uprated or not.
I had Sunnys old box out of his Fiesta. Even after recon, with all new parts 3rd gear was still stripped bare.
Lots of torque and hills dont mix. That's on low boost!
Have my std box in at the moment and have gave it death running the same boost and it's suvived upto now. Just shows.

Apparently mine was one of the stage 2 variety. Running around 16psi. 18 max.
The box shat itself and locked the whole thing up bar 1st gear.
Why not go the MTX route. That's the other option.
Maybe i was just unlucky. Who knows? Just one of those things.
Always a worry unfortunatly.
