Default My battery lights staying on, whats wrong?

Just came in from a small run in the cossie and noticed my battery light came on when i turned the ignition of, it stays on till i start it up again but my lights and that seem a bit dim

Is my alternator goosed or can it be a bad earth or something simple, i havent had a chance too look or check anything yet as its dark o`clock

Cheers

if it were melted it wouldnt go out when it starts charging mate, are you sure its not going out when you switch the ignition on and not just when you start it? bacause if the alt was giveing out a live all the time the batt light should go out once the ignition is switched on

Field wire from the rear of the alternator is BLUE, with a 90degree rubber boot on it.
If it stays on the DIODES in the alternator are leaking, this is part of the combined REGULATOR/RECTIFIER circuit, so will act as a drain all the time the alternator is connected.
Recon alternator is best bet, and should not be much dearer than the parts, around £35/45.
