Default Car tax question

I went to tax the VR6 on Saturday and the woman in post office said " ooh it looks like your car is changing tax category next month" but couldnt tell me anything else

ive searched online and cant find ANYTHING, Lees mum reckons ill be paying £400 for 6mths tax which i cant find any evidence to back this up at all, anyone got any ideas?

its a 2.8 btw

AFAIK they can't change the categorys of older car's by an unreasonable amount.
I.e. they can't just say, right next time your tax is going to be 4 times as much, they can however do this on new cars.
