Default Mondeo Problems

Well, its mega down on power and has an intermittent misfire above 4k.

I have two suspicions (because the ignition side of things is fine).....the first - the cat has been rattling for quiet some time, so it could be the cat has finally sh*t itself and has a blockage in the exhaust system.

Or, the MAF sensor is dead. I tried unplugging it and its exactly the same, no difference with it plugged in or unplugged, starts and runs, ok low down and just driving slowly, anything more than half throttle and its all over, just doesnt go.

Any thoughts/experiences with the zetec cat/MAF?

Cheers

Planning to take it down to longlife tomorrow if they'll do short notice work, get a pipe put in its place.

It was rattling about at idle for aggeeeees, sounded really gash, then it went quiet about a week ago, and now....its lost power lol.

How much of a nightmare will decatting it make the MOT? Easy enough to tweak it for the emissions?

no, you will need a cat refitting to get the emmisions low enough to pass.

Mine was EXACTLY the same. It had a new CAT in september and was the exhaust blocked up. I paid Ł84 to ATS for a new one and it feels like a different car! I had bugger all power and it just would not rev above 4k. Now it's smooth through the rev range and 100% more responsive.

Mine rattled on start up - the bloke that did it said the middle box was completely "mullered".

Exhaust - bet ya

Probably your cat then - you'd best get it looked at or else it'll be throwing shit inot your "new" exhaust and foobaring that up.

Mine was bought by it's previous owner on the 6th September 2007 at Formula 1 autocentres Halesowen for Ł139.81 all in.
stock code=321111 (if that's right - looks generic to me on invoice)

Well.....was doing a few bits today, fuel filter etc, as a bit of servicing, intending to do that then take it down to Kwik Fit for a new cat.....when I thought I'd investiage the ticking noise from the engine thats been happening for ages.

Took the cambelt cover top half off and , lose as fuck, the belt was almost hanging off....I'm sure its just the cambelt cover thats holding it on! - looks like the idler has died......and to think I've been driving it like that for a good while now, and has been spot on, not that gently either

Sooo, rather than take it to Kwik Fit, I decided it shouldn't be driven anywhere. So for the cost of the cheapest quote I've had for a cat - Ł180, I can buy a cambelt, idler, fan belt, and a cat off the internet (Ł60 new!) So busy few days ahead, off work for 9days tho

maybe you won't need the cat as it's the idler that's been causing the agro
