Ace car at the ring, the CSL.
But on the road, my money would be on the Turbo, as the straight line speeed would be more important than the handling.
Also, my next door neighbour has an M3 already, and it would be rather dull to buy an almost identical car!

I've got a 996 Turbo... you will love your missus even more when you get yours!
Saffs are wank mate
She is doing you a favour!!!
you MUST get it tuned by DMS when you get it. Or buy one already done!
They are ok standard... but DMS ones are properly mental! DO IT!
Read this...
http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evoc...rsche_911.html
Put simply, this tweaked 911 is one of the most ferocious cars I've ever driven. Inertia and weight are shrugged off as the mighty engine picks up the Turbo and throws it at the horizon with frightening force. The whole car seems to rear up as the acceleration builds, the nose pointing skyward ready for take-off. The way it pulls each successive gear with ever more venom is startling.
The standard 911 Turbo is a rapid car, perhaps the fastest point-to-point car, but with DMS's help it strides onto a performance plateau that puts it out of reach of all but the most exotic, expensive and impractical supercars.
GRUNTY and BRUTAL are the best words to describe them. A standard car runs .6 Bar boost. Mine hits 1.3 at what feels like tickover! the grunt is mental and all 4 wheels spin in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear if the road is not bone dry
DMS is a MUST mate. Remap, new exhaust and voila..... you have a Lambo eater!
The PCCB Calipers and uberbling KW remote resevoir suspension on mine make it even sweeeeeter.
Mike you wanna borrow it and do a review. You will want one!

Good advice, Lee!
I have a friend who took his Merc SL55AMG to DMS to work their magic - it is now an absolute fire breathing monster!
I am trying to be good to start with, and then play when I get bored of it.
Out of curiosity, is there any way Porsche can tell that the DMS is present (ie for warranty reasons?)

From Lee's link:
...depends if they drive it then, lol.
It has created a mesmerising supercar and its technical nous means that the remapped ECU is undetectable by Porsche diagnostic equipment, while the exhaust uses the OE tailpipes. By the way, the ECU upgrade alone takes the car up to 525bhp so you needn't go for the slightly louder exhaust if you want total stealth. It's the perfect crime.

To be honest, this is a moment of absolute madness. I call it a pre-kids crisis!
We are part funding the car on the basis that we have a large amount of equity in our current property, and no plans to move.
Common sense plays no part in such decisions though, I can assure you!
That and combined with the fact that I know that the only thing more expensive than a wife, is a divorce!

I've driven a standard one... its VERY VERY different. Its like driving a standard cos and a stage 3!
The exhaust tips are the same yes... but the fooking great boxes are very different as well

I will take em both and the Skyline to Brunters soon. I expect the Cossie to be faster to about 140-150 and then the Porsche and the Datsun to come sailing past.
Will be fun... could be REALLY REALLY expensive day out if anything goes wrong though

So the worst thing that could happen would be if the Cossie overtook the Porsche, dumped its oil, spun out the porsche which then collided with the Datsun whilst the cossie bursts into flames!
Lets call the above "worst case"!

Sierra is fearsome on the road mate. Honest it feels alot faster.... and I know just how brutal the 996 DMS is...
Mine just ate a GT2 clutch.... only fitted 4000miles ago... Gutted!

You are correct on clutch - X50 clutch is the dual layer clutch as found in GT2.
Interestingly, the non x50 clutch may be replaced with the X50 one!
